Hey guys and gals. I looked around for a topic like this and could not find it.
My Bass picks up the sound of my strap locks moving, switchs getting flipped(on the bass) and my wedding ring hitting the fretboard like no other bass I have ever played. Its so bad that its noticable in a band setting. I have to take the strap locks off to record it. My EQ is flat, but even in I turn off the tweeter and mid range on my acme cabs, flip the bass to passive, and turn the trebel 1/2 way down it is still rediculously loud.

Also I get super high pictch feedback if I use any distortion (tried may different pedals and amps no different results).

My question is: Does this happen with all of them, or just mine? If its just mine then its a fix, if its all of them then :( I love the tone of this thing but the pickups pick up the sound of metal like crazy.

Don't know about the Tributes 'cos I never owned one, but on USA models this is not uncommon. The culprit is undampened pickup mounting springs.

They reverberate and transfer a "ping" sound to the pickup. In extreme cases, any and all extraneous sounds can be heard as a "metallic" noise, along with feedback/squealing.

You can pull the pickups out, look at the mounting springs (if Tribbys even have springs). They're prolly empty. If so, they need to be stuffed with some soft foam rubber to dampen them.

Lowering the pickups can also help, but won't cure spring disease, if that's the problem.

Nice, I'll work on that tonight.

When I put something under the pickups... do I put it between the springs and the Pickup?

I don't think it matters. Actually, it's not putting something under the pickups, it's stuffing the springs that silences them. Poke some foam down into the springs.

I read your answers after I took a pice of paper and put it between the PUP and the springs. Worked like a charm.

After reading this thread, I pulled the pickups on my Tribute L-2500 and put a piece of foam inside each spring. This mod cuts out the noise from the strap, turning to pots to the end of their travel and anything else that taps the top.

I think it makes the harmonics and finger noise a bit more normal, too, since the springs were likely resonating in that range.
