I was looking at purchasing either the L-1505 or the L-2500 and I noticed that the 2500 has a "tri-tone" active/passive switch with off/on/on with high end EQ boost. The 1505 just has a off/on active passive switch.

Does this make a huge difference in sound? I do like a high end "punchy" sound. I have played the 2500 and like it, but I have not seen any 1505's around to try out.

Can someone enlighten me on this? Also the 2500 I played had a lot of hum/buzz that stops as long as you keep your hand on the strings. Is this because of inadequate shielding? I don't think it is the amp because my other bass does not make any noise.

One more thing....I am thinking about special ordering a G&L but I can't decide on a color. I wish they had the basses shown in all colors. Does anyone know of a website that has pics of the 2500 or 1505 in different colors?

I don't think the added selection on the tritone switch will give you a punchy sound. If anything it's pretty trebly, hence the name "treble boost."

As for the hum/buzz it could be shielding, or it could be the pickups were in series mode. I don't know about anybody else, but of the L2000s I own they do hum when in series (middle switch pointing toward the neck) despite shielding. In parallel (middle switch pointing away from neck) it's quiet as a mouse. In a band setting it doesn't matter very much to me.

If you want to check out colors, best bet is the G&L Club link. It should have almost every color you could imagine, and some that aren't even available anymore. I love the burst colors, with redburst being my favorite.

The buzzing could just as easily be badly grounded outlets in the store (or a badly grounded amp).

As far as I know, the 2 basses have the same tone controls- though I think the treble boost (if there is one!) is at a higher frequency...

The L1505 switches are parallel/series, Passive/active with treble boost.
Stock, the L1505 does not have active without treble boost. Also the L1505 treble boost is at a higher frequency than the treble boost on the L2500.
I had a modification done to my L1505 that changed the treble boost to that of the normal active mode (no treble boost) like on an L2500.
My suggestion would be to get the L2500 because it is more versatile. Unless you happen to play the L1505 and just absolutley love it. If you decide on the L1505 you might want to shop used. I got mine used in ex shape for $600
