I am a BIG Pearl Jam fan. But as of yet I haven't really sat down and worked out many of there songs. So I have a short list I wanna get worked out.

Push Me Pull Me (Yeild).
Porch (Ten).
Jeremy (Ten).
Rats (VS).

Thats my list so far....but I wanted to build up a catalog of Jeff's essential bass work with Pearl Jam. I was wondering what you people here at Talk Bass would add.

"Why Go" off of Ten. I'm a big fan of his doubled-string playing, but didn't want to start off with the played-out "Jeremy". :smug:

I'd broaden your Ament search to include Temple of the Dog's "Pushin Forward Back" - good song, fun line to play.

"Tremor Christ" off of Vitalogy has a great line. Probably my favorite P.J. song off of my favorite album of theirs.

I would say that Jeff is the best when comes to pocket playing.

Oh, and his tone is quite good live.

Almost anything off of Ten, "Once" is fun to play and "Alive" too (that was actually the first song I learned on bass).

Off of Vs, there are some cool songs like "Rearviewmirror" and "WMA" and "Glorified G" have a cool grooves going.

Other than that, I like playing "Save You" from Riot Act, "Do the Evolution" from Yield, and "Dirty Frank" (kinda funky, sort of) which can be found on the Lost Dogs CD.

Jeff Ament's definetely one of if not my favorite bass player in rock music. He's one of those guys that understands that bass is supposed to hold down the low end and doesn't overplay just for the hell of it, just enough to fit the song.

Rearviewmirror started my adiction to playing with a pick, and realised how hard is to do it properly. Don't know if the track it's actually played with one, but I did it to give it a different feel to the rest of what i was playing by those days, now it's a tune that always turns me up!

It is played with a pick indeed.

Don't forget to go as far back as Mother Love Bone - Stardog Champion has some great lines that fun as hell to play...

You can always count on Jeff Ament to have a cool jazz bass... anyone see the cool green, matching headstock jazz on the Pearl Jam storytellers? Anyone know if it was a Fender?
