TheBassBetween 07-06-2007, 01:32 PM It'd be perfect with a tiny bit more high's. It's too muddy, but that could be the recording. mactac 07-06-2007, 03:13 PM almost seems like a guitar player who is playing bass... machine gewehr 07-07-2007, 08:06 AM I could listen to that for hours, its great.I believe the tone is awesome too but the recording is bad,hey its a P bass,It can't sound bad!:p davefarrell 07-07-2007, 04:44 PM ooo man i hate it when people say it sounds like a guitar player playing bass. if he's a bass player it doesn't matter what instrument he sounds like....he's still a bassist. i would hate for you to see a video of Stanley Clarke doing percussive things with his upright. you would probably say he sounds like a drummer playing bass and if you did a lot of people would just laugh. I'm a bitter dude today, and that bugged me a lot. mactac 07-07-2007, 04:59 PM ooo man i hate it when people say it sounds like a guitar player playing bass. if he's a bass player it doesn't matter what instrument he sounds like....he's still a bassist. i would hate for you to see a video of Stanley Clarke doing percussive things with his upright. you would probably say he sounds like a drummer playing bass and if you did a lot of people would just laugh. I'm a bitter dude today, and that bugged me a lot. ...calm down :) All i'm saying is that it sounds like guitar work on bass.. I'm not insulting him or anything, merely making an observation. there's nothing wrong with what I said, it's completely valid. if you don't agree, that's fine, but to tell me that I'm not allowed to make that observation is a bit absurd. TheDarkReaver 07-07-2007, 05:29 PM i love it, s'got groove. Steve 07-07-2007, 06:25 PM I though he had kind of an interesting thing going on but... Man, either play to that click track or turn it off! TheDarkReaver 07-07-2007, 07:58 PM ...calm down :) All i'm saying is that it sounds like guitar work on bass.. I'm not insulting him or anything, merely making an observation. there's nothing wrong with what I said, it's completely valid. if you don't agree, that's fine, but to tell me that I'm not allowed to make that observation is a bit absurd. well the bass is a guitar.... TheButler 07-07-2007, 08:07 PM Ahh these remarks make me laugh, like there it is trying to define the undefinable. I personally thought the guy was good, average, but good. The recording didn't do him any justice though Christopher 07-07-2007, 09:06 PM Cool solo, great groove. I like the guy's acoustic version of "Willow Weep For Me" too. Bo_H 07-07-2007, 09:08 PM Groovy! Bo mactac 07-07-2007, 09:35 PM don't get me wrong here, i thought he was good..... Steve Boisen 07-07-2007, 11:52 PM Hello folks. That's my video that your commenting on and I appreciate the compliments. I am a frequent talkbass user but I usually post on the double bass side. I originally made this video just to show my friends my new American Series P-Bass. It was strung with flatwounds and I had the tone control rolled off, so that combined with the poor video quality (it was recorded with a basic digital camera) may account for the lack of highs. The bass sounded better in person of course, but I wound up selling it because I'm just not a P-Bass guy and I needed some bread to upgrade my amp rig. The tune was written as a bass solo and this is actually an abbreviated version. The comment that it was very "guitar player" like is valid because I am employing a similar right hand technique as when I play classical guitar. I do play quite a bit of guitar but bass has always been my main axe. I was puzzled at first by the click track comment because I did not use one. When I listened for it I could hear a faint clicking which must have been a watch or clock that was close to the camera. Funny how I never noticed it. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed my little bass solo. Now I'm inspired to write some more. - Steve James Hart 07-08-2007, 12:19 AM Glad you stopped by Steve (I'm speddling on youtube) |
