This is a search-engine-friendly text mirror of the TalkBass Forums Michael777 07-13-2007, 09:24 AM A spot for all Warwick Stuff snowbird 07-13-2007, 07:16 PM I'll also be the first on the Wick thread for Bass Central. No questions, just thanks for your availability. I'm sure this will catch a lot of action. snowbird Chris snowbird 07-14-2007, 12:02 PM Mike--I actually do have a question. I've checked the Warwick site and other Warwick players and repair centers on this, and I need one more educated opinion. I have a Corvette Std-5 and recently changed to TI Jazz Flats. The B-string does not quite sit down in the saddle, leaving a very small space below for light to shine through. That means that the string is not sitting completely on the bottom as it should be for best tone. Warwick says that the saddle can be gently filed to widen the saddle. I've found a local repairman who has done this kind of thing, but, nevertheless, the whole idea scares me. If the saddle is widened to much, the screws on each side that raise or lower the saddle could be ruined. I love the TIs and want to keep using them. What would you do if this were your bass? And if I go ahead with this, are saddles easy to get? Where? Thanks for your help. snowbird Chris Michael777 07-14-2007, 12:37 PM Mike--I actually do have a question. Stay Tuned he will be with you soon... J-taperEd 07-14-2007, 03:03 PM Howdy Folks! Chris, If this were my bass, I'd have no problem with (a tech or I)trying to widen the slots... it's a pretty easy operation and worst case scenario, a replacement Warwick saddle will NOT break the bank. Ed snowbird 07-14-2007, 03:13 PM Thanks, Ed! That's exactly what I'll do--toward the end of next week, because my wife and I are out of town until Wednesday. I assume, by the way, that this change does not preclude going back to the Warwick Black Labels or other strings, if I decide to do that. Anyway, you've helped a great deal, and I truly appreciate it. Regards, Chris snowbird 07-19-2007, 08:13 PM Ed, I had my Corvette B-string saddle widened today, and it turned out perfectly. It's amazing the improvement in the sound of the string now that it sits all the way down in the saddle. Thanks, Ed! I really appreciate your advice. And thanks, too, Mike for forwarding this to Ed. Regards to both of you, snowbird Chris Regards, Chris bassman blue 07-21-2007, 10:11 AM Very cool you started a thread for us Warwick lovers... Thanks guys! Have you seen the new just-a-nut III that is supposedly out and does it seem to be much different than the II? :-) J-taperEd 07-21-2007, 03:49 PM Mr. Blue, I have not seen the new Just a Nut III yet. Supposedly built with better material to counter the dreaded "where in the hell did that side tab go?" feeling. Those with a II will understand that line... I will definately post with an update once I get my grubby little paws on one. Stay Tuned... Ed birdxofxprey 10-18-2007, 03:36 PM hey guys, my JAN II bit the dust the other day and i'd like to replace it with a brass nut (thumb BO 5). any idea as to where i can get one of these babies? i've attempted to contact DBG, but get no reply from them. there has to be a place where one can order this item online... thanks! J-taperEd 10-18-2007, 05:57 PM bird, Warwick Just-a-Nut I (BRASS) (#30216) 5 string 45mm (#30226) 5 string 47mm Give us a call... snowbird 10-18-2007, 06:35 PM Bird, Looks like you've got some help! snowbird One Bad Monkey 10-20-2007, 10:54 AM I've been in love with Warwick since I first played one waaaaay back in '96; the guy had a 5-string Corvette that was strung with a couple guitar strings. Really weird feel, but he nailed that Patitucci sound with it. A year later, my Ibby Roadstar died, so I traded it in and ended up buying a used Corvette 5er with EMGs installed. I'm surprised, given how many different gigs, climates and places I've taken it to, that it still looks fairly decent. Now I have a second 'Wick coming, as a backup to the first one. willsellout 10-20-2007, 01:28 PM I have a Streamer Stage II and love it. That is all. Dan One Bad Monkey 10-23-2007, 06:22 AM I'm curious on if I can a Warwick gold bridge (5-string) and set of Warwick tuners, also in gold? The ones I got on my new/old 'wick have lost a lot of the plating. |
