Not a repair question, but just wanted to give Ed extra props for being so nice when I called back the other day to check and make sure my credit card transaction had went through!!

Ed was the first guy I talked to when I ordered the pink JO5. Grasshopper and Beaver had a hand in it, too.

I'll start it up, Ed. I replaced the pots, cap, jack and pup on a MIK Fender P. My first solder job, not so clean, but I connected everything exactly as it was.

Here's the problem - the tone knob controls the volume, and vice-versa. Also, the tone opens up by turning the knob counter-clockwise rather than clockwise.

Wha happun?

Ed? Ed? Any advice?

Ummm... hello, what have we here?

Sorry Steamthief... I guess someone needs to check this forum more often.

Anyways,
-MIK (Made in ?)
-Are all the pots audio taper, etc...
-Bizarro tone pot(reverse taper)? not sure off the top of my head why...
-Have you checked the wiring against a schematic on Fender's site?

Let me know, we'll figure this out...

Thanks, Ed. Korean Fender, 250K CTS audio taper pots. Didn't check a schematic, just unsoldered old pieces one at a time and resoldered new bits exactly where the old ones were. Pre-replacement, controls worked properly.

Ed? Ed? Any advice?

:ninja:

...become an LSU fan...

...sorry, couldn't resist, I gotta harass Ed, it's a moral imperative; and steamthief and I have a running battle over college football...

Geez, Gard, keep it on the proper thread, can ya? If it makes you feel any better, I had an LSU coaches/trucker cap in junior high in the 70's, partly because I thought the color scheme was cool.

If Ohio State makes it to the BCS, I hope LSU (if they make it) dismantles them. Roll Tide!

Anything to contribute regarding my psycho P? And no, I won't put a Tiger sticker on it.

Have a 70 or earlier Telecaster bass in need of an update. Know anyone who could accomplish this or a contact?

OK, here's one. I have a 6 string Modulus that was made in 1991, and there's no truss rod. sadly, the neck is bowed. What to do?

Steamthief,

Being a former resident of Ohio and a fairweather Bearcats/Bengals/Buckeyes/Reds fan...
... based on your last comment, I can't answer any further questions.

Roll Tide???
I think not.

This thread is now being closed.

Seriously tho...

STEAMTHIEF:
A Precision wiring scheme is a fairly easy one. If you're still experiencing 'gremlins' I would just take it apart and re-solder the parts, see if maybe there was an errant solder point or wrong lead, etc...
I only say that because it's so quick to wire the P-guts, it would take longer to try to deduce the problem.

LADDER187:
Update as in parts? or setup? Many places have re-issue parts and you can always find stuff on evilbay. Elaborate please.

DAVE MARTIN:
I had an informative chat with the ever helpful Anderson @ Modulus. A backbowed graphite neck CAN possibly be saved. The 'cure' would be to de-fret the neck and shave(i.e. sand) some relief back into the neck. The old heatbar/clamp method would effectively loosen any glue joints, etc., making for a not-so-nice neck. If you are the original owner, this WOULD BE a warranty issue and covered as such! Let me know if you are...

GARD:
TPM!
(Please see the UPS label on the package we just sent to you.)
BTW,
was it ... 'Young gulls, stately lion, immortal porpoises'?
I tried to tell the wife that one and totally screwed the punchline up.

Thanks guys.

Thanks, Ed, I'll try re-soldering everything - my previous job was my first, and it's kind of sloppy. If that doesn't work, I'll download a schematic to see what's doing.

And thanks for the advice after I dissed your team. Look at the bright side - you could be a USC fan like me. :hmm:

steamthief - I'm tellin' ya, that LSU sticker will cure what ills your P!

;)

..oh, and GO STANFORD!!!

:D

Ed - Lovely, I'm sure it is some scatalogical reference involving "T" and "P" knowing your shipping manager and his anal fixation. :rollno:

Yes, "young gull, stately lion, immortal porpoise". May the farce be with you, young punwan.

Steamthief-
No problem...
I made sure to clarify with the 'fairweather fan' statement... I haven't been an 'active Bengals fan' since the Collingsworth/Anderson era ending with Esiason's trade to NYJets... I actually still have a Jets hat because of that... eeeewwwwwwwwwwwww.

Reds... meh... (baseball is soooo boring when you can't drink)
Bearcats... honestly I like the logo more than the team
Buckeyes... don't pay too much attention but my good friend is a Michigan State fan so I HAVE TO keep that argument going...

Gard-
I think it had to do with you calling him 'nappy'
or something...

The only trouble with un-learning what you have learned is sometimes you may not have learned it right the first time so un-learning what you have not quite learned is a cluster f***...

I forgot to add...

Steamthief-
For an ABSOLUTE fix for the P-bass, put a J neck on it, that'll at least make it play right.
:hiding:
(Let the J bashing begin...)

Gawd-
Go to Sanford???
No way, I live in un-incorporated Apopka, that's close enough to Sanford for me... ;)

Damn steamthief, you're takin' all kinds of stuff here...first I give you lip about USC losing to Stanford...then Ed disses your P neck!

Ed, man, you ADMIT you live in Apopka, unincorporated or otherwise??? That's almost like admitting you live in BITHLO! :D

....and who knows you're bi?

Well, Gard, after the Trojans' laying down last Saturday, there really isn't much of a comeback, is there? My only hope is we run the table, beat Cal, Oregon and ASU all on the road (hopefully all will be in the Top 10 when we play), and squeak in as a one-loss team. Not likely (squeaking in as a one-loss team, I mean), but doable on the field.

Regarding the P neck, my main player is a California Precision Special, with a ......you guessed it, a maple Jazz neck.

Thanks - I left a message with the Modulus service guys a week ago and haven't heard back...

Honestly, I'm no longer sure if I'm the original owner (it was purchased in 1992 or1993), though I do remember that I bought it from my local Modulus dealer - I don't remember if I got the deal because it had been sitting in the store for so long or because someone else had bought it and traded it in within a year... In those days, I could simply call Geoff Gould when I had issues. But I'll ask my favorite bass salesman if he remembers...

Thanks!

Dave-
Foggy memory eh? ;)
No problem. Do check with your salesman tho, as it will be covered if you're the original owner. I've had a lag in response before from them but to be fair, I've experienced that with alot of manufacturers.

(Concerning ANY manufacturers calling back) It's all about what's going on when you call them (are they short handed, behind in production, putting out 'fires' (minor problems), etc... sometimes you can get right thru and sometimes you have to wait for a response... happens to all of them and it happens to us as well.

Gard-
Technically I'm in Apopka, physically it's Wekiva.
My wife likes to joke about my truck, my tank tops and our hound dogs making us SOOO APOPKA it's not funny but other than that, we're Apopka in mailing address only.:spit:

I have two questions.

First, when I turn knobs on my Fodera Yin Yang and on my Pedulla, there is static. I think it has been described is dirty pots, which means absolutely nothing to me. What, if anything, can I do about it?

Second, I had a six string F Bass made with a finger "ramp" between the two pickups. I have become so accustomed to it I can almost not play any of my other basses. It takes me 5 or 10 minutes before my fingers adjust. I would like ramps on all my basses between the pickups, but it sounds awfully expensive, especially when you factor in the shipping of the 8 basses that don't have it. I have thought of making a pencil "rub" of my basses between the pickups so that ramps could be cut, and I could screw them on, but I haven't the slightest idea where to send the rubs to get them done. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Tom

Ed,
I've got an Alembic SC Standard and need a Q switch Toggle replaced...

I am a local, what will that run and do you have a toggle available?
