I bought this bass a few weeks ago from a fellow TB member. Here is what he said in his listing:
"Up for sale is an OLP StingRay 5. It has a black finish, maple board with black dots and matching headstock. There are some good things, and bad things about this bass,
The good: I modded the bass with a Carvin MM style bridge humbucker and it sounds a heck of a lot better. It is wired Volume Volume Tone and it really has a huge sound. Its very loud, and can go from very aggressive with the tone cranked, or very bottom-heavy with the tone cut. I also replaced the stock bridge with a Schaller 496 (black) bridge (These can be seen here. The bass was just cleaned up today and was strung with D'Addario mediums.
The bad: This bass needs a setup like crazy! The action is pretty high. I'm certain it could be lowered, as the bridge saddles are high, but I do not have the tools to adjust the neck, or the bridge. This bass had its pickguard sprayed black. It looks cool, but some may not like the fact that its spray painted black.
The ugly: The tuners are pretty cheap on this thing. In fact, this bass had an accident in which the G tuner was broken. It was replaced with a much older Fender style tuner, which is not very smooth but gets the job done."
Some things have changed since I bought it from him:
I did lower the action a bit, so the bass is actually playable now. It could still be set up better, but it worked well enough for what I needed it for.
The nut broke at the B string. So it needs a new nut.
And as you turn the tone knob up a static hum sound gets louder the higher you turn it. It was like this when I bought it, but I didn't bother saying anything since it was so cheap. If you touch something metal on the bass or the amp the sound goes away, so I don't know what the problem is. It could need the pickup shielded, or it could be something else.
I'm asking $100 shipped to the lower 48 states. I also have a hardshell case that I could throw in for another $20.
I'm going to include a link to the classified thread that I bought this from, because there are pictures of the bass on it. I can also e-mail some more pictures that I took. I did take a picture of the broken nut if anybody is interested in that one. Just PM me your address is you want more pictures, I can send what I have. I can also take more if there is anything specific that anybody wants a picture of.
