I couldn't find any information about this in either the search function here or in the Hiscock book and it's been on my mind for a while now, so here goes. When making a black body (could be any colour, just using black because that's what I'm doing) with a white binding, would I add the binding before or after I paint the body? Thanks. :)

Bind first. Then paint. Scrape the paint off the binding with a razor blade. Then clear coat.

Would it be easier to just cover the binding with masking tape, then peel it off before the clear coat? In any case thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know!

IME messy, unreliable and You usually have to scrape it anyway, or worse.

It is a problem if You want to paint wet to wet, but with a steady hand even that can be done.

Always bind first.

BUT, what I've done is tape off the binding on the sides. Meaning the part thats on the side of the bass. The top of the binding I leave untaped and scrape later on. But it isn't hard to tape off the face of the binding on the sides, and it will save you a lot of time and scraping later on.
