I even did all of Tommy Iommis lines to get a little flavor back in the days, and most of the lines are pretty intuitive, which I think is another good skill to use. My opinions, and certainly that may not be your style of music. CJK84 07-17-2007, 09:22 AM Of the body of songs that you like, pick the ones in which the bass can easily be heard (e.g., Gimme Three Steps by Lynard Skynard). Listen closely to these songs many, many times on various systems (iPod, large stereo) and try to pick out the notes. I cannot state strongly enough how important it is for musicians to develop their ears in such a way (yes it's work, but it pays off). Imo musicians who can pick out notes by ear are superior to those who cannot. When used correctly, tabs can actually play an important role in ear development. Tabs, however, should only be studied after a musician has spent quite a bit of time getting as far as he can on his own (up to 10 hrs per song). no1likesme 07-17-2007, 10:08 AM .3 by porcupine tree CElton 07-17-2007, 12:24 PM try anything by the "Cars". easy to pick out the basslines. If not, most of your rock/pop tunes over the years are fairly simple, some more harder than others. The main thing is to try to learn songs you love, and that will keep you focus and motivated. username n/a 07-22-2007, 03:41 AM iron maiden-running free, really simple bass line |
