G'day,I replaced my strings with weedwackers and they really suit the slap I dish out,but the E string just doesnt cut the mustard, its so low tension it sometimes pulls off the bridge, and volume is poor.can anybody suggest a replacement?.

Innovation Silver Slaps. Not cheap, but worth it.

Try a Eurosonic E. I bought one for the same reason. Worked really well. But, as with any compromise, I was lukewarm about the sound I was getting overall.
I eventually went all gut, no wraps.
I get the best slap tone imaginable. I just had to adjust to the puffiness of the E. I tend to "strike" it more than pluck it in pizz. If the tune calls for more staccato, it's pretty good. Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a matress though.
I ordered another bass to handle my primarily pizz work. And I told my wife golf was too expensive of a hobby.:help:

thanks mate, perhaps Ill settle on gut and use a drumstick for an endpin,I heard this will increase volume and tone by the truckload.

What guage is your E? I'm using .155 right now and it seems fine - I'm guessing yours is smaller-?

I like the sound of a raw gut E and A, but I need more note and sustain, so I have been using the Innovation Rockabilly E and A (tape wound nylon)on my King. they have a nice mellow slap (not to clacky like a steel or wound gut). But they are high enough tension that you can play pizz on them and get a nice note.
cheers

I'm very happy with my Innovation Rockabillies. I'm a novice, so my opinion isn't worth much I suppose. But, guts seem to "thick"for me, and I tried Jargar Dolces and they didn't turn my crank.
I'd be interested in trying the other Innovation products (Silver slaps and super slaps I think.)

I use Clef all Guts. the E (and the other strings) all sound great both amped and accoustic.
