Hola,
i've been playing on one of those jumpstart Ibanez amps for awhile due to lack of funds, but i recently came into some money and I was wondering what type of amp would compliment a Fender J-bass nicely?
I like to play rock stuff (Audioslave would be a great example) but would like the amp to be a lil versatile, you know? i would greatly appreciate some help. oh, and please keep in mind i know next to nothing about amps...
Peace and Love-The Master

If you've got the bucks i can't recommend the MarkBass Mini CMD112p too highly.

My forum is really intended for questions pertaining to Theory and Concepts used in Modern Electric Bass playing, however, in regards to your question, there are many good amps out there to choose from. The answer really depends on what your personal preference is. Many people whom donate to this conversation will surely have their opinion and tell you what the best amp is in your price range but what works for one may not for another. Sound is a very original thing and if you want to find “your” sound instead of sounding like others, I encourage you to go to stores and play through as many amps as you have to until you find an amp that works for you. Your ear will tell you. Trust your instincts!
Having said that, I play and endorse SWR Bass Amps. They sound great and work well for me. My basses are custom built by Ron Blake Basses and the one I play the most has a Jazz Bass pickup configuration and the SWR compliments the bass very well with a great warm sound. I have used them for the last 12 years. If the SWR is a little bit out of your price range (check out there website) there are many other amps that I have tried such as Gallien Kruger, Harte, Ampeg and others that may have what you are looking for. Good luck in your search.

Not really a rock amp. Great for upright though, wish I could afford one.
+1 to what Dave said, go to a store with a good selection and play out of some amps. I'm also down with the SWR, and a used Bass 350 head can be gotten for around $325 (what I play). It's a little underpowered, so it's best to pair it up with a 4 ohm 212 cab or two 8 ohm cabs of any configuration.
