I notice on my pick-ups the pole below the B string is low, thus low volume out of the B string. Under the E string the pole is higher and under the A and D even higher again. And under the G it lowers again but not as low as the B string. I was wondering if other's see there PU's set this way also. I am the second owner and am not sure if this is the way they are set at the factory. I have a Squire 5 string bass also and all the poles are set are the same height all the way across.
My B string on my MIM is not tapered at the bridge, I am wondering if I get a tapered B string if that would lower the string a little to improve the B string output. Of course this bass is active and my Squire is passive and the Squire sounds louder than my active bass. Just curious what the experiences have been here and looking for suggestions. The bass sounds fine to me otherwise. Marty

According to specs on the Fender website, the pole should be farther away from the B string rather then the G string for example.

In general I've found that the output of my B string is a tad lower then the other strings (on my MIA 5 stringer), I compensated that by moving the pickup ever so slightly closer, it's all a matter of trial and error.

You said you moved the pick-up closer, did you do that by loosing the appropriate screw to allow the pick-up on the Bass side to move upward slightly? The poles on my noiseless pick-ups are phsically different in height with no individual adjustment. The B string pole position is low, the E pole is higher slightly, the A and D are both higher and the G is lower.
Do your poles follow this pattern also? thanks. Marty

Ahh, that's a tricky one, according to some posts here, some have had luck in adjusting the poles themselves, some not.

In my case I did not need to adjust my poles since I have Bartolini pickups in my MIA which has covered poles so I just had to loose the screw a little bit so the pickup went a bit higher.

I raised the side of the pickup of the pole that is closest to the B string and it did raise the volume. It is much better. Thank you. Marty
