Friend of mine loaned me the cd. It was quite satisfying. I forgot how good it was. Extremely heavy. If ya dont have it, ya should go out and buy it. Its good.

Not a lot of Black Metal love around here.

I haven't listened to this album, but I do like Borgir. The bassist has an amazing voice.

I'm suprised on the last 2 albums they've gotten quite 'musical'. The new one is quite enjoyable.

I'm really digging this whole album. They have really stretched out musically. It's quite good.

Yea odd isn't it? I mean, as musical as it is, I'm suprised it is getting that much attention but I haven't heard much from the black metal masses claiming they sold out.

I dont see how people could say they sold out. That albums heavy as hell.

they say they sold out because they aren't "real black metal" anymore, the purist black metallers are just whining. Puritanical euphoric misanthropia is my favorite though!

i'm really digging this album...i liked nick barker's contributions as drummer for 'armageddon' and 'misanthropia' and when i found out hellhammer was going to be stepping in as drummer, all i could do was think about how much i really dig arcturus and how going with him just made sense...i love the serpentine offering, and after hearing 'diaboli' i went out and got the re-release of stormblast...man...great...sorgens kammer rocks...and if you dig shagrath or dimmu in general, he steps in on kamelot's last album for some guest vocals...not a huge contribution, but it really contrasts with khan's style...dimmu rocks

Good though Nick Barker is, Hellhammer is really a whole other level IMO. Not checked this album out yet, but if it continues in the trend of the last couple (bigger, heavier, more symphonic) I'll be happy :)

Sorgens Kammer does rock, but 2 of the best tracks on the cd IMO are The Chosen Legacy and The Sacriligious Scorn. I really dig the evil keyboard lines in Chosen Legacy. mmmmm evil

Too bad Dimmu isn't black metal...anymore. Their first 2 albums were. After that the only song I like is "In Deaths Embrace"

you know, the first time i heard hellhammer's drumming, i wasn't impressed at all...when i found out that he was arcturus' drummer, i couldn't believe it was the same guy...now the guy's a behemoth...you can check out the serpentine offering and the sacriligious scorn on their website...i think you'll dig it

it's funny you say that...to my knowledge, mustis is a diehard classical nut and doesn't even listen to black metal (or majestic melodic or whatever box you want to stick it in)...you're right though, he does come up with some wacked out keyboard parts, though...bach would be proud :D

i can see your argument, there, knowing firsthand how norwegians are about their black metal...by their definition, though, if they found out that a guy from the united states thought that dimmu's first two albums were black metal, they would have to write dimmu off as having never been black metal at all :D by the same account, i can go to sam goody and pick up satyricon and dark funeral albums all day...what does that say?

The only song I have heard off this album is "The Serpentine Offering" because a friend of mine plays it constantly. I really like the song. I might have to check out the rest of the album one of these days.

Bach, Beethoven, and the rest of the old dead guys would be very proud. I hear classical influances all over on certain songs. The Serpentine Offering is a great example. The beginning reminds me so much of the music from Star Wars for some reason. I also had no idea Mustis was a classical nut and didnt listen to metal.

+1!

I really like Dimmu Borgir. Their newer stuff is very different from the earlier stuff, but it's still good. Just different.

Note: I am not a big Dimmu Burger fan, decent band, I just don't have any major urge to listen to them: but I have to ask... why?

I like all sorts of Black Metal, and I don't see how they aren't black metal. Is it because more than 3 people have heard of them? Is it because there album wasn't produced in the woods? Do they not worship satan and make music in his name?

Strangely, I prefer the stuff that was produced in the woods. ;) I think lo fi Black Metal, when done right, has a very cool ambient effect.

I meant that they're not true norwegian black metal like darkthrone. They're apart of the new wave of black metal which is quite different from the norwegian style which is more raw and brutal in my opinion. Like I said I still love to listen to them, especially the stormblast album. Sorry for my miscomminication. Also sorry for any grammer or spelling errors.

Not even close to their masterpieces Puritanical and Death Cult but still, a decent album.. IMO

So it's because they are not from Norway and their albums are produced good?

I love Darkthrone, and I don't see a problem with putting them in the same genre as Dimmu Borgir. Black Metal is way too exclusive, the whole scene is kind of a joke. Love the music, don't care for the whole image. (though I like corpse paint, in a... "jokey" sort of way).

Well, no offense, but I hate words like "offence, h8, and betta." But it's all a difference of opinion.

And really, the thrash dress code of tight leather pants and jean jackets... stylish. I don't think we should judge bands by their awful clothes.

Norwegian black metal(raw and brutal; no keys) refers to the style not were the band is from. Like I said its not that they're not BM, they're just a newer wave of BM. People also argue wether cradle of filth are BM or not. Same thing applies: they're in the newer wave of BM which sounds nothing like the other style of BM. I consider the two versions of BM to be different genres

So, it IS real black metal then. I've had this argument with so many people and it ALWAYS ends the same way. I just think it's weird that is what everyone that is into black metal says the same thing, "They're not really black metal." Then I ask what kind of music they play, the answer is always like, "Newer Black Metal." You understand my confusion, right?

While we are playing the genre game: What is Emperor then? They are innovators in Black Metal, fairly brutal... and they use keys. And for that matter, what is Xasthur? What is Blut Aus Nord? Emit? Deathspell Omega? Bands that fall under the Black Metal umbrella, but all sound really different from each other.

I agree with this guy to an extent. You can have some keys in Norwegian black metal, but not all over the place, look at Enslaved for example.

they're all from norway...nick barker was the only exception, but hellhammer is their current drummer...and i totally understand your confusion :D when i think of black metal, i think of the satyricon vid of mother north or (though they're actually swedish, not norwegian) the video for secrets of the black arts by dark funeral

I always enjoy your posts nepoon! I am a huge fan of the Euro-metal scene and no one brings up Arcturus anymore(one of my absolute favorite metal bands). I love this new album. Dimmu really captures your senses. I'm awaiting some new Borknagar as well. Bands like Arcturus,Dimmu Borgir,Borknagar,In Flames,Nightwish,Children of Bodom etc. make me tune out American metal for the most part! Dimmu has come a great distance from their original sound. I love their progression and look forward to a future DVD release. -Luke

well, thanks, bro :D good to be loved around here...i dig all of those bands, too...i recently watched my first video of arcturus...i totally didn't see that coming at all...everythign was white and they were wearing old theater masks...it was pretty odd, but all of those guys are awesome musicians...have you heard the kamelot tune march of mephisto with shagrath? pretty cool video and khan is the total antithesis of shagrath...it's a pretty good contrast between styles...it would be cool to see some more dimmu vids that tie all of the songs together, especially with this new album being a concept album...the stories/parallels, or mockeries, rather, behind the sacriligious scorn video is pretty interesting...yeah, i dig dimmu...
