Hello Solo Bassists!

I've just started dabbling into the murky depths of solo bass. I'm just plannin on playing some tunes with a looper and a drum machine, I'm finding it difficult getting a nice balance between some slower melodic chording parts I've been doing and some tapping parts. Also finding ways to make smooth transitions between different sections in the songs.

I'm just after some composing advice really, also any ways to keep the songs interesting. Of course they are intersting to me, but I'm a bass player :smug: I want to know how to keep them interesting to the general public?

If it helps the ideas that I'm playing can verge on sort of minimilism.

Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.

I know this may sound flippant, but asking these kind of questions is the most important step in growing as a composer and the questions themselves may be more useful than the responses you receive. These are the kinds of issues all composers grapple with and there are few, if any, right answers. I recommend doing a lot of listening to music that has the qualities you’re looking for, experiment and be ready to accept each new piece as a separate challenge. Good luck!
