Im having problems finishing my p bass body. i put a purple stain on it and its coming out a slime green color on the ash wood. Is there something i am doing very wrong here? im thinking now of just spray painting it purple. It looks like it was laying at the bottom of a lake for 20 years all covered in moss. Any input would be greatly appreciated.:hmm:

:hmm: If you’re using dyes like what LMI or Stewmac sell they are best used on closed grain woods. I've used the purple dye on maple with no similar setbacks. I would consider ash an open grain wood so that may be your problem. I suspect it will take a lot of sanding to completely rid of the dye. SO on a side note what you could try to do is this, sand back the dye until only the deeper pores of the grain show color. Then clear it, this will help to exaggerate the wood grain. And it will look unique to boot! :D
