VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Signature rubbing off - how do I seal it?

I don't know if this is exactly the type of work that demands a "luthier" (in fact, I hope it isn't), but I figured you bass-building experts would be able to lend a hand. I recently had my bass signed by one Mr. Victor Wooten at a Flecktones concert. I brought the control cavity cover instead of the whole bass, and he signed that.

However, I've found that when I play the bass, the cover rubs against my leg and it appears the signature is starting to come off a bit. I obviously don't want this to disappear, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep this from happening.

While I am fairly proficient at playing the bass, my experience when it comes to refinishing one is exactly zero. I'm hoping there's an easy (not to mention cheap) way to do this that doesn't require too many brushes or coats or whatever.

Just so you know, the cover is black plastic, on the soft side (you can scratch it with your fingernail - I don't know why they used this material in the first place) and he signed it with a silver metallic sharpie.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

theres many things you can do, you can spray some polyurethane on it, wrap it in something, or swap it out and frame it...i hope i was of at least some help, and post what you do with it later on, because i may need this information in the future!

If you're too cheap to buy a new cover get a spray can of acrylic sealer.

It's not a matter of being cheap. I would prefer if the cover with the signature stayed on the bass. Spray-on sealer sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!

If you're too cheap to buy a new cover get a spray can of acrylic sealer.

But go easy! Several very light "mist" coats are better than one gloopy one & have less chance of dissolving the glitter pen. Have a few goes on something that doesn't matter to get the feel of this.

You can buy protective film from 3M. Apply it and trim along the edge.
