I'm sure most of you have seen posts here authored by some guy named Jeff Bollbach, did you know that he now has his own web site. If you go to http://jeffbollbach.com/ I think you will as I did learn some interesting information about bass lutherie.

You beat me to the punch. AGAIN. While reading the rant, I learned something about my own fingerboard, too.

Whatta website! Now I can see why everybody at TB got so excited when Jeff appeared in the DB forum. The only problem I can see is that he's in NY and I'm in Hawaii; otherwise, he'd be kicking me out of his shop at least once a week.

Special thanks to Mark. I had labored as to whether or not to announce the site myself[didn't want to appear self serving] but you solved that little problem, didn't you.
I must admit I'm having some fun with my foray into e-land. I want to send out a plug to Dave Cardon. He's a client and we traded some bass work for the web design[uh oh-do you think the IRS monitors this board?] I was quite happy with his work-he made it very easy for me[believe me I needed it to be easy]

As I alluded to in the site I am really busier than I'd like to be [being basically lazy in nature.] So my intent for the site is not primarily advertising. I guess its part advertising[for new basses], part ego[i'm human], but mostly the site is a beard for the rant. I feel like I am on a kind of mission. You see- I call myself a luthier. What makes me a luthier? I didn't go to college for it. I have no liscense. Its just cause I say I am and a few players seem to agree. There is absolutely no policing the bass lutherie world[actually that's not true in Germany] The only way to keep luthiers honest is if the players are watching. And if they are not watching they'll be charged $90 anhour for ten minutes of work done in the back by a ne'er-do-well kid with a tube of crazy glue and a failed hardcore band. It seems to me that TBer's are interested in watching.

There is amazingly little literature at all on bass lutherie-even on the web. I feel a need to provide a counterpoint to the little that is out there. Eventually I intend to attempt some actual print media[any help-opinions?] but right now the combo of TB and the site really gets it for me. Hopefully my rantings will continue to be welcome here.

ps. Marcus-didja say Hawaii? mebbe we could arrange a house call!

How do I get linked with other websites and which would be the hippest ones? I'm sure one place I should look at is All Hail Bob's house.

Yes, this may be a good quesion for (All Hail) Bob.
I know if I do a search on your name on say www.google.com your website isnt' listed. If this is what you are looking for I will have to talk to one of the web geeks at work to answer the quesiton.

Good Luck

I'm going through this with my bluegrass band's website right now. I can tell you for a fact that the freebie search engine registration services are basically worthless ploys to get you to sign up for spam mail. There are lotsa paid services out there, you can find them by doing a web search on "search engine registration" or similar term. I dunno which one's best, though. You might try asking tech support at your hosting service for a recommendation, or also the service that registered your domain name.

Already added your site/email to the Luthiers Directory and also to the Basslinks page, before I saw this message.

But hey- directions from all those Noo Yawk places but not Joisey!!??!!

Jeff Bollbach

Well, now I have some personal gain to add to my reasons for counting myself among the Hailers. Many thanks!
I'll still look for ways to link up-but between TB and your omnipresent site I'm already sittin' pretty in Schaeffer city[that dates me]!

You were surprized I didn't include directions from Joisey? Did you notice directions from Afghanistan?

I'M JOKING, I'M JOKING! That's allowed here, right?
That was just an oversight-I'll get on it right away. I give good directions over the phone though.

As long as you don't ask permission from the toybass contingent first, the answer is "yes, absolutely".

BTW, my site host has a pretty interesting stat page-it tells all sorts of stuff about who or what is visiting. ONe fact I found most interesting was that, as of this morning-of the total 306 visits, 89% were from TB!
Can anyone tell me when the money starts rolling in?

Hey Jeff,

Do you take wooden nickles?

I believe those are quite valuable these days- so sure.

So Jeff, do you work on violas?

Jeff Bollbach

Judging from your avatar you and I might be able to talk bass of a different nature. What, are we lookin at 6-7 lbs. there?

Jeff, I couldn't even guess at how much that fish weighs! Actually, I do no fishing at all, which is sacrilege in these parts - I'm surprised at times that fishing isn't the state sport. I was searching for an interesting picture for my avatar and did an image search for "double bass," and this pic popped up. I thought it was kind of funny. By the way, I enjoyed your website, too, I checked it out after I saw the link on this thread. You have been a great source of information for me, and obviously for the others at TB.

Darn, I thought I'd found a new fishin' buddy. There was a time when I was a bass player, loved to fish for bass, and drank Bass ale exclusively. I always wondered about that coincidense.

Just out of morbid curiosity, does anyone have an idea of how much those Bollbach basses cost? Although it's likely going to be a while before I can upgrade my DB situation, I'm a sucker for beautiful new double basses.

Jeff,
I enjoyed your site very much! I really like that Yew Tailpiece of yours! Interesting wood, looks a lot like curly Bubinga. You present your site in a very knowledgable fashion. I wish I could afford to start playing upright on something a little more well crafted than plywood, but I have the money for neither at the moment.
Keep up the good work! Very educational!

Hi Jeff and other interested TB-ers,

You're already mentioned at www.basslinks.nl (also hundreds of individual bassplayers are to be found in the links, the most you'll find on the web!!!)
Check us out; already one of the coolest bass sites around!!! Thousands of visitors find their way to BL and you'll certainly get exposure overthere; ehh correction.... you're already exposed at BL.

maybe you could be the first to post? (this forum is up for two hours ... but you might have noticed that too :)
You're welcome! Live dangerously for once ;)

btw;
I don't see a fully accredited Berklee professor moderating here ... :D
There's a possibility to learn something!

For example that you as a player also are listed at BL (in the players links) ...

GERBERHOCKEY,

That's because you only have to be a fully accredited curmudgeon to moderate here...speaking of which, let's not steal Jeff's Thunder in this thread. I'm inclined to have a soft spot for the aforementioned site since it will be Xavier G's new home after he was run out of TB by the BG OT cretins, but this thread is supposed to be about Jeff.

Welcome to TB, and please fill in your profile when you get a minute.

I can see that you can't come up with something more original/contributive and since this is Jeff's thread, whom i only tried to help by mentioning that BL had already listed him (and that was one of the initial questions he had; how do i get linked up with other websites), i will leave this discussion to keep Jeff's thread running like it should be; by helping or suggesting eachother with this question, leaving behind you Žuseful/helpful` guys to do your thing ...

In any case: you remain welcome at BL and if you have some valid remarks/suggestions besides the 'photoconstitutes' kind of communication, we're open for your feedback! Maybe you could help me too the way you're helping Jeff ... ? Well.....maybe not? I certainly didn't get any good vibes out of this, to my sincere regret i had to encounter this cynical and childish behaviour between us bassbro's ... (???) Guess i`m from somewhere else (?):(

Respect!
Your bassbro, Jabberwocky

p.s. Jeff, i like your site too! :) And THAT'S sincere!!!!!

I must say that for several weeks I didn't realise that your avatar was a picture of a Double Bass. Possibly because of the small size we get and the way it was framed, my eyes were seeing the reddy-brown part as the background with a sort of dark bluey-green "nipple" in the foreground!

Maybe this says more about me than anything else - but I just had to tell somebody! ;)

Whoa!! For a change I'm uploading porn to the internet! I never thought I'd resort to subliminal advertizing.
BTW-some of you fine fellers may have noticed that the rant section of the site is offline. It's up for some revision/addition and it should be up soon. I'll let you know.

Mr J.B. Wock-thanks for the help and compliment.

Gotta give BL a shot, at least; Bruce Gertz is the moderator, so there's hope.
