i am starting in on my second project soon, and i was wondering what the normal nut width for a 6 string bass is.

I am working with 54mm on an upcoming project. 84 at the 24th fret, with 17mm string spacing.

ok thanks. i was planning my body out, and realized i needed to figure out what nut width to use.

On my current six Im going with a 54mm overall and a 9mm string spacing. Thats pretty much the norm I suppose. rather comfy too in my opinion. I recently rebuilt a bass for a fellow member that had 12mm spacing and 63mm overall at the nut, it was a bit too much....

So far most I have built were 2 1/8 to 2 1/4 at the nut. Or since we're talking so metrically 5.5 to 6 CM. :) I got that size from my Frenz basses, which all seem to be around that, very comfortable.

isnt 9mm a little thin?

At the nut? No, 18mm at the bridge.
