VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Impulse Buy Explains Strange Blurb!
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 08:35 PM ...or, how buying a bass kit from guitarfetish led me to this place just as the Weekly World News folded..... :D
But seriously, folks....
I did indeed buy a bass kit on impulse thinking that if the bass sucked once I assembled it I could at least hang it on a wall and call it art. But the kit (consisting of finished body and partially unfinished neck) arrived, and I began thinking "this might end up being playable."
A good friend recommended this site to me, and I've been reading up in this topic and others. I think I'm in the right place.
I would have posted a link to the original webpage, but apparently I'm not the only one working on this kit. It's now sold out. So I guess I'll just have to post my own pics....
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 08:39 PM Here's the bass kit. I've been calling it "The Blue Flame" despite how much that sounds like the name of a gay bar. :D

OMG thats hilarious!! :D :D :D
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 08:46 PM It's been suggested to me already that this body was routed for single string bridges as seen in the first pic.
But the routing on the body is not string-through-body, nor would it be necessary if using the single string bridges in their other configuration with the ball end secured on top. I may have to fill those holes.....
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 09:09 PM Body, front and back, closer up....
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 09:13 PM The 24-fret neck by itself....
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 09:16 PM Two views of headstock....
Dirk Diggler 09-06-2007, 09:26 PM Having just taken a tour today at Hipshot those routs are for Hipshot triple lock down bass bridges. I just got 12 of them today for 2 projects and was surprised at the routing required.
So what is the question you are asking? Put it together and start playing it, all you need is pickups and electronics, well tuners and bridges, but now you know where those can be found. ;)
I will admit the blue flame joke had me chuckling too, humour is good. :)
Dirk
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 09:31 PM The neck does indeed have a truss rod within. That's probably good......

DirkI haven't even gotten to the "asking a question part" yet - this has all been prelude! :D
But thanks for that info re: Hipshot. I was already leaning towards them anyway....
rodl2005 09-06-2007, 09:39 PM Bass looks nice SO far! Should be good! & would go down(no pun intended) well at THE BLUE FLAME BAR! ;-)
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 09:43 PM Bass looks nice SO far! Should be good! & would go down(no pun intended) well at THE BLUE FLAME BAR! ;-)Well, so far all I've done has been to buy pre-made parts. But if you're complimenting my photographic skills, then thanks! :D
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 11:27 PM So what is the question you are asking? Put it together and start playing it...Hmmmm, I guess I should have mentioned from the get-go that this is my first attempt at putting a bass together and that, while not completely clueless, I am deficient in the knowledge that will help me make this become a playable instrument on my own. So I'm sorry to say I can't immediately comply with your directive to "put it together and start playing." My inability to do so is kinda the reason I posted here in the first place. Please forgive my failure to describe my noobiness right off the bat (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360688). :hiding:
Goofy Hand 09-06-2007, 11:53 PM This is probably one of the reasons this kit only cost $38 (less shipping). But considering I play goofy hand, it's unlikely I'll get that far up the neck anyway!!! :D :D :D
Dirk Diggler 09-07-2007, 09:08 AM No problem at all, if you have any questions or any ways we can help let us know. That price is certainly cheap to say the least, you got pickups in that price?

DirkHaven't bought any components yet as I'm still researching. I've been reading up on pickups and such. guitarfetish has started making their own bass pups now, and people rave about their GFS guitar pups.
