It sounds like a very classic SVT tone to me, but I could be wrong. Anyway, with a pick and new strings I am able to get a very similar tone with my Sansamp RBI with both my Warwick thumb and my Peavey Cirrus.

Not sure what he was using amp-wise in the studio (if at all), but on the Holy Diver tour, he was using a Yamaha BB (1200?) with a P/J configuration. Great tone.

Yamaha BB-something with PJ and pick through Gallien-Krueger amps and cabs live. That's what I saw on Rock 'n' Rolll Tonight.
