Hi all, posted this in the DB Basses forum but no response so I figured I'd try here as a maybe more appropriate place...:help:

Looking for a good DB teacher in SE Houston (NASA) area. This would be for me, adult student, many years of electric playing, about one week so far on DB. I'd also like to source a good luthier in the Houston area, got my Roma hybrid bass from bassesonline and need to get it properly set up. Yellow pages around here don't separate good from bad and I'm new to the area. Thanks!

Hi,
I would recommend getting in touch with Paul Ellison at Rice. He could recommend a teacher for you and a luthier. Paul is an important player of Francois Rabbath school of upright playing. I am sure he has a student that would be willing to teach a beginner. There might be a contact email for him on the Bass society website: www.isbworldoffice.com . If not, search Rice University and Paul Ellison.
Good Luck

I would recommend Amati violin shop by rice for set up, or Jim Scoggins, who I am not sure how to contact.

Amati did a good job for me fixing another luthiers work.

I have also heard good things about Lisle and Gold violin shop, but have not had any work done by them.

Dorian at the Lisle shop on Bissonet (not the one on Pasadena) does really fantastic work. You can't go wrong at the Amati shop or with Phillip Gold either.
