VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Chris Chaney update?
friskinator 09-13-2007, 02:55 PM Anyone know what Chris Chaney is up to these days? I know he's done some recent studio work for some various artists, but I was curious to find out if he's touring with anyone. Always great to see him rock it live, and an extremely nice guy to talk to as well...
burk48237 09-13-2007, 03:04 PM I had heard somewhere he was out on the road with Robben Ford. He and Will Lee, held down the low end on Fords new CD. Ford always has great rhythm sections.
ThumbyAche 09-13-2007, 03:12 PM Are you talking about the former Alanis Morrisette, Janes Addiction guy? If so, he is the bass player for "The Panic Channel" which is Dave Navarro's band. I have the disk and it's pretty good. I thought Jimmy Earl was Robben Ford's latest bass player...hmmmm..
Coward Of Reali 09-13-2007, 04:53 PM Nah he left the Panic CHannel a while back (I think the whole band split up after he left).
andrew 09-13-2007, 04:57 PM No, Panic Channel are still going with the bass player from Powerman 5000 now. I don't know if it is true or not but I heard a rumor that Chris left Panic Channel because he had an issue with leaving the state to tour because his parole officer wouldn't let him out of California. What he was supposedly busted for wasn't said but if anyone knows if there's truth to this or it's pure bs I wouldn't mind knowing.
zongeek 09-13-2007, 05:03 PM TPC are done.
The Powerman guy was only on for the tour. There is quite a bit if speculation about Chris leaving.
I got to audition for the part, but I didn't get for lack of tour experience. Drat.
ThumbyAche 09-13-2007, 05:31 PM I read that the singer, Steve Isaacs left the band and that Navarro was going start another project with Stephen Perkins on drums and some other bass player. I never heard anything about Chris Chaney leaving or an official break up of TPC.
friskinator 09-14-2007, 08:39 AM Regarding the "on parole" story - not true! I spoke to Chris last year after one of the last Panic Channel gigs he did, and he told me that his touring schedule is extremely restricted by his family obligations. He's married with 2 young sons, and he said that his days of doing extensive tours are pretty much over - he even had to turn down the Shakira gig due to its length and itinerary. He was a super-nice guy to hang out with, and was more than willing to talk shop (and even got a phone call from Foo drummer Taylor Hawkins during the conversation!) I was just hoping to catch him on tour again sometime soon, he's a great player to watch live...
Bass Boy 09-17-2007, 12:41 PM I had heard somewhere he was out on the road with Robben Ford. He and Will Lee, held down the low end on Fords new CD. Ford always has great rhythm sections.
Andy Hess is doing some of these dates as well.
sobie18 09-17-2007, 05:48 PM I heard he was driving the getaway car for OJ...
j/k...
Wish we'd get some good bands to tour out here....
albass111 10-02-2007, 03:06 AM Chris is a very underrated bassist. Back in the day, he could throw down on upright with some of the very best young guns of jazz.
tieftonservices 10-02-2007, 06:04 PM chris is scheduled on the robben ford tour here in germany, hope to see him. he is a great player.
walkinglines30 10-23-2007, 03:11 PM Man I love Chris. My favorite bass player ever .(other than Juan Alderete!) I saw him play with Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders in Toronto and he was outstanding, he's technique is literally perfect and groooooooooooves. I was in the front row at the show right infront of him and watched him most of the night and he was outstanding, he's an extremely versatile player.
Even Taylor said " probably the best bass player in the world, Chris Chaney!'. I hope to see him sometime again.
walkinglines30 10-25-2007, 11:08 AM Anyone else have any thoughts/comments on Chris Chaney? Anyone else seen him live?
Jay Terrien 10-25-2007, 11:53 AM He kicks a lot of ass in the LA bass session scene. I have some engineering/producer friends that recently worked with him and they elicited compliment after compliment about his session skills. ;)
walkinglines30 11-14-2007, 08:37 PM So anybody know any other upcoming recordings and or bands that Chris is working with? (other than Roben Ford)
j-raj 11-15-2007, 01:05 PM haven't heard his name in a little while.
DeliriumTremens 11-15-2007, 02:47 PM saw him 2 times with Jane's Addiction. He was good but I wish Eric Avery had been there...
basslyon 11-16-2007, 12:46 AM All I know is "Price I Pay" is the fatest sounding bass riff ever - it just drives the whole song. I want his pedals.
Mean while. Chris left TPC due to family commitments. enter powderman500 guy. Steve issacs moved to new york and the band went into hiatus. He has recently moved back to LA and acoustic TPC stuff has been discussed by him and dave navarro. meanwhile navarro is writing some new solo stuff which may or maynot ever be released on a CD
