Bling factor is off the scale!

So what do you think of the sound, especially the LG?

Lets just say that I've never heard a LG sound this Fat, clean, and mids for days, This bass really cuts thrugh the mix like a hot knife through butter! And it also has a great slap tone. The LG is also wired with a push/pull single coil volume knob.

Just got a chance to plug in the SKB 3005 which has the Dual Coils with seperate Series/Parallel switches for each pickup with a demeter pre and I must say that I'm not impressed at all with the pre/pickup combo. The pre-amp almost sounds hollow and very glassy in every mode...like theres not enough bass or mids. Anyone have this same experience with DC's and a demeter pre?

Don't get me wrong the demeter pre is a very awesome sounding pre with the orginal bartolini pickups but it sounds terrible with the Dual Coils IMO of course. Anyone else feel the same way? I'm thinking of going with a aguilar 3 band eq or a bartolini. The Fat Stacks in my LG with the bartolini pre just sounds super fat with clean mids and basss for days! ANyway, I'm definitely getting another pre and I'm open to suggestions.

I remember talking with Carey about the Demeter, he didn't like it!
I think Nords sound good with Audere, Aggie and Bart IME.

Okay so which one would you guys recommend? I play smooth jazz and contempary gospel and do a lot of slapping and finger style playing. I heard a lot of great thinks about the Aguilar and DC set up. IMO, everytime I pick up a Roscoe that has a audere pre/bartolini setup it sounds dead to me... no real bite! I know that the Bart pre will sound good! By the way, does anyone know if all of these preamps have the same sized shafts for the pots? I'd hate to buy one of these pre-amp and can use my custom wood knobs

By the way, I'll be selling the Roscoe demeter preamp for anyone interested. I'll take $135.00 shipped via Paypal. I also have 2 sets of the bartolini soapbar pickups which came out of my 2 5 string Roscoe'a I believe that both sets will work for 5 and 6 Roscoe bass guitars.

Carey uses Aggie and they sound great together! I've have used Nords with Bart and I liked them.
... and both the pre are used for the style of music you mentioned...
I know this doesn't help
The Roscoe Barts are quadcoil. You cannot use the 5 string mod for a 6 and vice versa. Sorry.
In general they have all the same shaft size....

Get the Audere! The Nordstrand DCs + Audere in my cedar bodied roscoe sound great, and would fit that style perfectly

If you want a little more bite, the Ag is cool too, but if you want something clean like the Demeter but more thick sounding and versatile, the Audere is the way to go.

Carey's pickups don't work with the Demeter preamp, period. It's a terrible combo. One of my favorite combos is the Demeter with Bartolini pickups however. With Carey's dual coils I'd highly suggest the Aguilar OBP-3 or the OBP-2 if you don't need the midrange. His Dual coils are a bit dark and polite and the Aguilar preamp gives them some bite and booty.

I've got Carey's Dual Coils in my six string right now with an Audere preamp. It sounds good but I'm sure for what you're explaining you do that you'd prefer the Aguilar preamp. I like the Audere with the Dual Coils but not for everything. For what I do (fingerstyle, no slap) it works.

=) I'll be able to let you know how the DC5 + Aggie OBP-3 sounds by tomorrow.

Oh and how do you think the Barts + OBP-3 would sound? I guess I might be interested in a set of Barts if they'd give the bass a different flavor from the DC's

I'm not sure how the barts would sound with the aggie but I know that they sounded great with the demeter!

I'm really loving the DC5 + Aggie OBP3 combo in my bass. To me, the Nords sound brighter, more open than the Barts. The Barts seem a little more focused, but darker. Some have said the Nords lack the low end heft of the Barts, but with a little bass boost from the Aggie, it's all there. Cutting, agressive tone but can be smoothed easily. I've just got a coil tap switch that takes both pups to single coil, and of course the dual coil mode is fuller and darker, and the single coil mode is bright and snappy. A pleasant surprise for me has been only a slight volume drop between dual coil and single coil mode. I was expecting a bigger difference. Some have even said they rarely use the single coil mode due to the drop in volume.

hey fish, cool that you're lovin the DC5 + Aggie combo =). I JUST got my bass today too and I have the exact same combo with the series/single coil/parallel switch for each pickup.

I'm going to be trying out the bass a lot more tonight and in the upcoming week, but one thing I noticed was that [at least on my bass] the treble was really aggressive when I plucked any note on the G string. I have to cut a good amount of treble on the preamp for it to be bearable for my ears cuz I feel like it's a bit too piercing when my amp is sent flat and all the settings are flat on the pre-amp as well.

Other than that, so far I'm really liking what I've gotten =D
