PunkerTrav 01-14-2002, 04:59 PM HAHAHA you guys crack me up:D jazzbo 01-14-2002, 07:23 PM Jason, I didn't officially welcome you to Talkbass, and I apologize for that. So, Welcome to Talkbass. The greatest thing about Talkbass is that it's almost like a community, but it's not an exclusive one. We take all kinds here, even those that don't listen to jazz :D. But, this is very much a teaching and learning website. I try and help anybody I can, in part just to pass on the tradition of help that I've received from such TB immortals as FUQUA, DURRL, PACMAN, JT, JORIS, EMBELLISHER, GARD, and JW-- er, where was I? Ah yes, I mention this because this place has a history of, how shall we say, heated, discussions regarding the use of Tab. Now, I'm not interested in getting into that with you, you've stated you like them, so no big deal. I wish you the best. But, what is hard to tolerate is when people expect others to do the work for them. See, if you can't find the Tabs, and you've checked the Tab section of TB, which I understand to be quite extensive, and you've looked all over the internet, they probably don't exist. (Which is a bit of problem with tabs). That being said, essentially you're coming into an established, symbiotic, community and asking us to do work for you while you, as far as we're concerned, sit on your tush and play Magic or something. That's what the hub-bub is about. See, you can't just walk into a room of musicians, which in some crude ways TB is like, and just say, "Hey you guys, do this for me." See, that will be met with resistance. That being said, I hope you stick around Talkbass, and become an active and regular user/poster, but at the same time please understand that we will help you and hold your hand through it, but we won't do it for you. Oh, and where's West Chester? I'm from Youngstown. Chris Fitzgerald 01-14-2002, 10:14 PM Originally posted by BLINKY TABEVIL maybe, in addition to chewing his food for him we could fart for him, too. Ugh...YOU can fart for him if you want, but I draw the line at holding the spoon over his open mouth. Once digestion begins, I'm outta there. Jason welcome to the board. Jazzo has eloquently highlighted the tab problem. I would suggest that you train your ears to do the work for you. Yes its hard work. Yes it takes time. Yes you may get stuck. I suggest that you would get much more positive response if you kept 'tab' out of the post and proved that you have worked on the piece. eg I ve got most of it but where does it go at this point? See you around jazzbo 01-15-2002, 11:29 AM Well, by DURRL's logic, where does GARD fall now that he has that EUB? And he makes money from playing, and his CD is already released, (unlike the promises from JT that soon his CD will be out, no really, seriously....). But then I can't put GARD in front of DURRL cause DURRL's got the Aebersold camp and he plays regular old Bull Fiddle instead of that weird anorexic hybrid thing that CHARRED totes around. Hmmm. Then, I didn't even mention the DONOSAUR. Maybe it should be alphabetical. Besides which, I don't think PUKESPRAY needs more people worshipping him. CHI-CHI, Alphabetical works for me, as long as I get to go by "DURRL" (otherwise, EMBARRASSEDSWISHER beats me out by a nose). By the same logic, DONOSAURUS REX should be filed under "Higdon". jazzbo 01-15-2002, 04:12 PM Originally posted by Chris Fitzgerald CHI-CHI, Alphabetical works for me, as long as I get to go by "DURRL" (otherwise, EMBARRASSEDSWISHER beats me out by a nose). By the same logic, DONOSAURUS REX should be filed under "Higdon". Hmm, I wasn't sure what to do so I did some research and was able to find the proper order of things. Let's assume we're putting some level of order to things. We've got: Chris A Ed Fuqua Chris Fitzgerald Don Higdon Joris Embellisher john turner Pacman Gard Now, there are essentially four groups. The first group is DBers. Next is the EUB group, represented only by Gard. Next are your two-timers, DB and BG. Now, an argument can be made that all DBers really double on BG, but for the purposes of this system, I referring to people that still play a significant amount of BG. Then you have your straight BGers. First group is ED, CHRIS, and DON. Now we'll go alphabetical. Fitzgerald winds up being first, ahead of Fuqua, but when referring to the old Latin texts, the proper spelling of Fitzerald shows up as Yf-PhieouxtczkJaiour-oulde. This decidely places Chris last. Fuqua is seen in older Swahili writings as pHb!ook-na-na!wheigh. He's just above Chris. Greek documents, including writings by Aristotle, show Don's name as Doniforieous Maximus Heraldigdonious, which really leaves him in first place. Next is Gard. Native American references show him as Two Dogs --- nevermind. Pacman would be next. Japanese records from Atari, near Tokyo, show his name actually being spelled Jonosan Pacisurki, translated to English as "Jawless Yellow Dot Chomper." As the others all play BG, they do not matter. Edit: he he! silvermaneZ 01-16-2002, 10:11 AM Originally posted by jazzbo Well, by DURRL's logic, where does GARD fall now that he has that EUB? Don't forget Adrian Garcia in Vegas. I imagine with all his gigs for the casino crowds and the aging hipsters listening to KC, he can't be doing THAT bad. :D |
