I have a black on black Tony Franklin fretless with ebony fingerboard. It currently has rounds on it, and I am considering putting a set of DR Black Beauties on it, mainly for looks I admit.
Is there any reason I wouldn't want to put these strings on this bass?
Thanks.

I'm really just interested in whether these strings have the potential of damaging the fingerboard any more than the current rounds would?

I think you should be good. The Black beauties are a very slick string with a nice soft feel.

Not damage at all on your fingerboard, overall good sound, but i still prefer other rounds like ernies, but I think those are the only black.:smug:

They won't damage your fretboard any more than other rounds would- probably the impact would be less. I had a set for a couple months and was surprised at how quickly the coating wore off to expose the silver-color of the metal. If anything this would look worse (I'd think) on an all-black motif bass, where the silver 'flecks' would stand out. I'd say it's worth a try, though. There are some other choices for black strings: RotoSound, Black Diamond, maybe still La Bella, probably others still....

I had them on a fretless but put them on one of my all Black bass except for Hardware and they look great and sound great. I put Sunbeams on my fretless and all is well,

Fender tapewounds are all black. I have a set on my p-bass (fretted). I had them for a couple of months with no sign of wear yet. I only play it 3-5 hours a week though.

i think the black beauties look seksi (:)) when the silver's showing. they feel great, and the loss of color does not change that fact.

I have the Red Devils on my Ripper right now - they're awesome. Great for slapping. I bought a set of Black Beauties for my Grabber. They look awesome. I don't tihnk I'll keep them on my Grabber tho. I reckon XL's are better for that bass. But not played it much sicne I got my ripper!:hiding:

I was looking for a good string for my fretless Warwick and found the BR black coated round wounds to do pretty nicely. I ordered a red set for my red fretted P to see what that's like, but for the fretless I'll give em a thumbs up.
