VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Help Name Our Band!

I think I read a thread a while back where a poster was having problems with his band's name... And, others were asking for some of the ideas that had come up.

Well, my band's in a similar quandry... We've got our first "gig" at my friend's Halloween bash October 20th. He's asked us what name we want on the flier. Of course, we haven't picked one (mainly because we didn't think we'd have a gig so soon!).

A little about us, three of us are engineers (two mechanical (myself and our guitard), and one software - the drummer). Our singer is a CPA (yeah, strange mix I know). We live in the Detroit area, so I was really pushing for a Motor City/Muscle Car/Automotive type name. We've bounced off some ideas through e-mail exchange and getting together, but haven't really found anything that feels like "That's it!!!"... Although, we have one name that at least our drummer likes (he seems to be pretty picky). Our guitard is Russian (his name is Ivan), and has only been living in the U.S. now for about a year, so we also thought it might be cool to have a name with a little Russian flare to it - but that's not essential.

Anyway, I'm not about to create a poll with over 50 names in it, so, take a look at the list below, and let me know if there's anything that really sticks out and seems cool... Any ideas are welcome as well!

We're really just a cover band now, but we want to work on some original stuff... Some of the stuff we're playing (to give you and idea) Audioslave, RHCP, Clutch, Buckcherry, STP, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, mostly 90's and current rock...

I'm sure some of the names are taken, as some are sort of generic... Others came from episode titles of TV shows that we liked, and some we just created on our own... Please be cool and don't steal any names from the list until we pick one!!! I'll come back and post what we decide on once we can figure it out!

Here's our list (in no particular order):

Haulin' Grooves

Stick to something short and sweet that'll fit on a marquee.

A lot of engineers you say? Built to Last springs to my mind.

But from your list I liked:
Supercharger, Pushrod and Lead Foot the most.

Kalashnikov would be great for a black/death metal band!

I'd go for something like Motorfart, if you'd like a humouros twist to it =D

The Originals.

David: "So, we became the Originals."
Nigel: "Right."
David: "And, uh, we had to change our name, actually."
Nigel: "Well, there was another group, in the east end, called the Originals and we had to rename ourselves."
David: "the New Originals."
Nigel: "the New Originals."
David: "Yeah."
Nigel: "And they became..."
David: "...the Regulars. They changed their name back to the Regulars. And we thought we could go back to the Originals, but what's the point?"

:D

Speculum Sword Fight

(ok, I didn't think of it. Funny though and would attract interest on a marquee!)

you should name the band "Diesel"

That's a good suggestion, thanks... It's kind of funny, a friend of mine just named his kid Diesel (no joke).

Actually, we're leaning towards JP-10 at the point. It seems to be the only one that everyone has some interest in.

BTW, JP-10 is "scientific" name for jet fuel... So, it's a lot like diesel in that regard.

I liked Off Camber.

Another good suggestion! I like that too.

No real "story" behind the Terror on the Docks... I had an idea of looking up episode names to some TV shows where cars were a main character (i.e. Knight Rider, Starsky and Hutch, Dukes of Hazard, etc.).... Terror on the Docks was a Starsky and Hutch episode title that I thought sounded cool.

Thanks for all the cool suggestions, you guys are really helpful!
