I bought the para driver second hand and I need your advice...in some positions of the blend and the mid shift the drive switch is off...when I turn the mid shift on it works

The drive should always work. However, the overdrive may not be as noticeable depending on which mid frequency you're boosting/cutting. And if the drive's low enough, it'll just be a clean tone. With any overdrive, boosting different frequencies will alter its character and push it into overdrive either sooner or later. All of the controls are interactive.

Also... you can't "turn off" the mid shift - when it's at zero, you've actually dialed in the lowest frequency in the midrange to assign to the mid knob.

But when my mid shift is less than 170 hz the drive is not noticeable. When I turn it to higher frequencies the drive switch works....is this okay? Moreover the product is almost new..

It's probably not going to be noticeable (at least, not great-sounding) at that low of a frequency. I believe your Para Driver is fine.

When I use my MXR Blowtorch (a fuzz pedal) at its lowest mid-shift setting - 250Hz - it's not very noticeable when boosted. Boomy, but not really fuzzy. When I use that setting, I use it to cut at that frequency instead, as boosting it at that point isn't that great. Meanwhile, when it's at the 2KHz setting, there's no dodging the presence of that fuzz! :D

Uh... I can't answer that, really. It's not just about your basses - it's what kind of music you play, what kind of budget you have, what kind of sound you want...

It's a question for the Amps forum. You'll have to give them more details, of course, so they can help you out. I'd suggest starting a thread there or doing a few searches. But since it's not an effects question, it's best that we don't drag on that conversation in this thread - you know what I mean?

We hear distortion mostly in the higher frequencies. So if you boost the lower frequencies very much, and turn down the master output to compensate, you will have literally turned down the volume on the distortion (in simplified terms).
