I thought it would be a neat idea to see some of our fellow TBers showing off their chops & it would be a great way to hear your rig. Perhaps list what bass, cab & amp you are using on the clip?

So yeah... post your links!:bassist:

OK I might as well bite. This was a while ago, I am like three pieces ahead in the book now, but I am pretty proud of this. I am playing an Ibanez SR905 into my SWR WorkingPro 12 and then the direct out into my firepod. It is Bach-Suite #2 in D Minor Second Movement.

That's a great song. Is it an original?

Thanks :) It's not an original, it was written by and performed by Jimmy Cliff. There is also a movie with the same film title that is sort of a cult favorite starring Jimmy Cliff.

We are an original act though, we end up playing one cover or so a night.

Wow, some great and varied stuff so far.

I'm digging daofktr's Hendrix (great sound, ruling performance ! ... so too on "Couldn't Stand The Weather" which is a fave tune of mine), and Spoiled Grape's Jimmy Cliff (another all-time fave song of mine, performed by a guy in a Brains shirt no less ... I'd be very pleased to run into you guys at a club), and the jnprather metal covers are well-done. Deaf Pea's band is quite the mash-up of genres, and I dug that too while (despite me baing a Maiden fan) chuckling at yet another drummer that doesn't dress properly for gigs. Really, I've enjoyed pretty much everything so far. Good work guys.

I'm thinking :::BASSIST::: was wanting solo performances with the bass gear clearly audible? I've got nothing like that, but for those interested there's a bunch of my bands w/ videos linked in my sig. I've gigged all these in the past year, and there are a few still unaccounted for. Probably a different set-up in each one, so just ask if interested to know what's what.

Yeah . . . I REALLY like the mix of styles . . . we play blues, rock'n roll, punk, heavy, reggae, hard rock, r 'n b, funk, rockabilly, ska, latin rhythms (tumbao, son, guapango) and more, sometimes within the same song!

Oooooooooook here goes. I gotta say that I did not do this for YouTube (unlike most of my videos on YT). It was an idea for a instructional video I was developing.A family crisis stopped me from finishing it. I was recording a part that had been midi bass (which I also played) originally done with a piccolo midi bass (another idea I was developing).

Anyway, I was reading a chord chart and made some mistakes but I'm the kinda guy that would fix a mistake on an otherwise special take rather than try to recreate the moment. Most people will do it a certain way and keep repeating (more takes) until they get it that certain way.

I strive to be more spontaneous than that. Sorry about being long winded. I did a photo/video shoot today and came home wanting to add to this thread. Sorry for the babbling...

I just found out I'm on youtube, without knowing it myself! I did a trio session which apparently was recorded an put online. Cyber-age paparazzi I tell you. Luckily I didn't play completely worthless.

You can watch it here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NqOtib4A2o

Bass sound is very bad sounding because of the camera mic (I guess they used a camera). It's an Eden rig and a Harley Benton bass for those who want to know. I was also experimenting with a pick in that period, but have since gone back to fingerstyle.

Dude!

MONSTER tone

Thanks for the compliment . . . I THINK that that's all in the fingers . . . but YMMV.

EDIT: specifically the tips of the plucking fingers . . . the "hardness" of the callouses AND also the effectiveness of the left-hand muting (muting ALL of the strings that aren't being played at any moment) have everything to do with the resultant "MONSTER tone". Thanks again for noticing . . .

That was really tight. The groove was pretty bad ass, the live drums helped a lot. I'm not too big on solo oriented music, but it was good, I'd like to see that but in a more song oriented form. I'll have to check out more, because that was really kick ass.

Here is a short clip of the solo artist I play with. You can't really see me but I am on the right side, behind the singer. I am playing a Stingray 5 through an Eden WT-400 and two Eden cabs (4x10 and 2x10). The amp was backline, but I play an Eden WT-800.

I'm going to go ahead and say it: Jauqo, you may very well be my hero. You've got a weird band, but that's all I like anymore is weird. This is the kind of music I wish I would have wrote so I could take credit for it. Genuis stuff. Some of my favorite instrumental music I've heard has come from your Youtube account. Ha. Such an amazing jam.

Wow, thank you Matt. It's kool that you dig it because I honestly don't expect any one to, especially with how people are so quick to want to be a clone and/or compare ones artistry to someone else's definition of artistic expression or succsess.

Thanks again for noticing . . .

Ok here are my submissions (covers). Two of the videos have terrible sound quality because my room vibrates when certain notes are played, distorts badly so put your volume down if yah are going to watch it.

So here they are.

Domination-Pantera (not distorted, best sounding one)

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=dqLNrNfp3qg

The Trooper- Iron Maiden (worst video in sound)

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=B-VK4rUGE-I

Seek & Destroy-Metallica (distorted)

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=EKccn5BJi0U

If you can, some feedback would be great, thanks :).

hmm.. well, I told ya after I heard Seek and destroy to turn the lows down.

after hearing domination, turn em back up a touch, and turn the high down.

btw, good job on the songs!

oh and peavey, check out my song: it's in a thread called "english project"

That's some really great playing, arcellus- you inspired me to try "You stepped out..." I'm stuck at the :22 second mark of the solo though :D

You should add "Elrick" to your keyword tags- people always get my videos when they search for it, and it'd be good for them to see a how a much better player sounds with one.

The signal path for the bass track was Birdsong Sadhana (soloed bridge w/varitone on bypass) --> Korg AX3000B --> Presonus BlueTube --> Audacity

Verses were clean and all other parts used a Synth patch on the AX3000B.

Not me solo, but here's a clip of my band playing from this weekend:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=27059014

In that song, I'm running my Squier VM Jazz (newly modded with SD Quarter Pounders) through my Digitech Bad Monkey, into a Kustom Groove 1200 with two B410 cabs. There is a Symetrix 501 compressor and a BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop of the amp. Of course, since I was running DI, most of what you hear is the house system.

That was unbelievable! My first time every hearing a 7 string and now I don't just want one, I need one! Then all I have to do is grow a couple more arms, and my life is guitarist free.

Hey all,

I mostly post videos of myself playing through transcriptions I've done; it's a way to keep myself honest and make sure I can play the things I've transcribed, before I dive in and do an in-depth analysis of what's going on in the tune.

Here are a couple of recent ones:

John Coltrane's solo on "Trane's Slo Blues" from his album Lush Life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iysKHa7Ct0E

Miles Davis's solo on "Straight, No Chaser" from his album Milestones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a92C0SYC4gThere are a ton more on my YouTube channel, linked in my sig.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

I can't rave enough about how great your phrasing is and how close you are to Trane's phrasing.... I'm jealous!

I've just added a youtube playalong of Stevie Ray Vaughn's Pride and Joy. I'm playing a 1989 USA Kramer-Spector NS-2-0 through an ampeg BA210 combo. I'm playing with the strings tuned down one semi-tone.

Thanks!

Signal chain is this:

Bass > U5 > 4-channel mixer...

I take the line out from the MacBook (which is playing the backing track) into the mixer, where I balance the levels of the track and bass. Then I run a line from the tape out of the mixer into the MacBook's line in, and record with Quicktime Pro. Monitoring is done from the mixer.

Hope that helps.

Here's a music video that my band GUM included as a CD-Extra feature on our CD. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_DWZHm3nBA) (c)1998. It's a song our drummer wrote, we were going for the two minute hooky pop song. I think we got it. One of my favorite guitar solos ever by my brother Peter. Sound is great because my friend Jeff Juliano mixed it. Back when we could (barely) afford him.

hey, sounds good man!

just a question - is that a somewhat accurate representation of how flatwound strings sound on a P? i've been contemplating the investment in some, but wasn't sure what they sounded like.

anyway help would be great!

this one is the "trailer" for an award-winning film (EL MAGO by Jaime Aparicio, 2004) that used our band's music as (part of) the score . . . our song "Animas" was used for the "trailer" and plays while the ending credits pass by, too . . . I also supplied "bits and pieces" (short mix elements, like JUST a couple of measures of the rhythm guitar, etc) to the post-production people and a lot of that stuff ended up in the final mix of the film . . .

www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCFVC-crgzw

FWIW, there's a bass solo spot at about 0:33 of the "trailer" (that whole song was done on fretless, BTW)

Nice work there D-P. The fretless sounds great and I really like the trippy vocal effect.

Here's one we did for a local college station last year. The bass wasn't taken direct - it's just a live mic on my little ampeg SB12 fliptop. We were playing very quietly - they weren't equipped for a full drum kit or anything. There's a little talk at the top, but the tune gets going fairly soon.

Actually . . . I didn't listen to the link before I posted it . . . it seems that theres some processing on there that isn't on the CD . . . AND . . . that version of the "trailer" is in MONO!

I'm going to check it out  thanks . . .

I just heard it through laptop speakers and they had a leslie-like sound similar to what the Beatles did on few of the Magical Mystery Tour tracks.

Sometimes stereo processing does wierd things when you bring it back to mono - maybe that's it.

They sometimes use spacial processing (in film mixing) to get a W I D E R stereo . . .
that could be what we're hearing here . . .

and yes, it does have that doppler/leslie type sound summed to mono . . . thanks again for letting me know about this . . .

Someone at our last show taped our performance on his camcorder and just posted a clip of us on YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2fvPwqqqS4

We were short one member on guitar due to illness, so it sounds more empty than it usually does. And it's kind of faster and more raw... And I am almost invisible off to the left... But you can definitely hear me...

My band The Red Limit has a few vids up, with some live footage from our gig at "the world's longest hockey game"... playing outside when it's -35 really isn't fun, but it was a cancer benefit so it was pretty cool. And by the time the heaters got going at least we were able to take off a few sweaters.:p
