Hey everybody:
I'm sick of adjusting my wood instruments (I've had so many basses, and I've concluded that they ALL move; if you have extremely low action, you simply notice it, whereas if you have average string height, you notice it much less). Further, since I teach bass & guitar, I play my axes every day, and now I see just how they all move, and I find they all wiggle a bit every few days...these are Warwicks, PRS guitars, Taylors, etc. It's maddening.

SO! I am seeking a 34" scale 5-string with a graphite neck (preferably with string spacing adjustable to 16.5 mm like a Warwick). It's a tall order, especially because I want it to be pretty light...under 9 lbs.

That's the background. The QUESTION for all of you, is;
ARE ZON BASSES CAPABLE OF ROCK-BOTTOM STRING HEIGHT? Or are they dialed in for medium-low action?
As a bonus, does anyone know if Zon bridges can be adjusted to 16.5 mm string width?
Thanks for checking this out.

Hi Akori,

If you are looking for a bass with a straight neck with great fretwork look no further than Zon. Joe Zon stands behind his design so much that he does not use a truss-rod in his necks. This is a good thing because Zon necks are so stiff that they wouldn’t move anyway, even with the turn of a truss-rod. The fret work is perfect, allowing the strings to “lay down” on the neck and this is how Joe usually sends his basses out.

The string spacing is not adjustable but there are models with 17mm spacing. There are also several options for 34 inch scale 5 strings.

Give me a call if you have a chance, I may have just the bass in stock for you!

My Zon has a truss rod in it. I know they used to ship without, but I think they all have a truss rod now. That being said, I doubt I'll ever have to mess with it.
