Alright guys,
Im thinking about crafting my own bass out of logs of oak my neighbor said i could have if i go get them out of his yard lol. Well, i personally think oak is an amazing looking wood so im really exicted about makeing this bass. I got a lot of wood so i figured that i would make a simple bass first then once i get better and figure out the little tricks and all that i would gradually excel in complexity.
I think im going to make a standard jazz bass, ill cut the body and router all the cavities and all that but i dont feel like im good enough to make a neck, so i thought i would just buy one.
So, how is oak in sound quality? Im told its a real hard wood that is tough to work with so i got my work cut out for me.
Any advice you can give me would be awesome since im going to wing this whole thing. I have all the equipment i need to make this, my grandpa made a woodshop that has a planer and all that stuff.
Also has anyone have any info on where to buy a good jazz neck. Im dont have much cash to spend on this so price is a concern. Ill keep you guys updated, im going to probably get the wood to size and maybe cut it tuesday.
Thanks
