I love everything about this album. The bass playing (JMJ really smokes on some songs), the style (dig the folk thing going on), beck's vocals and lyrics, the orchestration and songwriting, and even the album artwork.

my good friend just turned me onto Beck, and I can't get enough. Justin Meldal-Johnsen is one hell of a player as well, I'm really diggin the both of them.

i love that album, and although ive always dug the bass playing in beck's music, it is probabaly the last thing i would compliment musically on this album as it is one of the best examples of modern folk singer songwriter music from the last decade or so, and i would be content with it being just beck with a guitar and a harmonica, simply brilliant.

Love Sea Change. Its a break up album, apparently...either way, its probably Beck's most consistent album, in terms of feel, and I've always thought consistency in an album is very important. +1 on recommending it to people who might not have heard it!

Not true I don't think. Justin Meldal Johnsen still players with him. As far as Justin's playing, it's absolutely wonderful. He has chops but before that he has a great imagination and awesome concept, and that is above all else.

He collaborated with his father, super movie scorer and string man, David Campbell to make this album. It sure shows.

I also saw him play with the Flaming Lips playing all of his songs. Amazing stuff. The beginning of that show Beck came out and played about 5 songs with just him and his acoustic guitar. It really blew me away. The Sea Changes material with Flaming Lips playing it was just amazing.

yah that would be a dream concert for me. i love that album and i'm a huge flaming lips fan. bet that concert was a trip and a half:)

Love this and Mutations...In fact, I owned this on regular CD, I ended up buying the 5.1 Surround DVD Audio....a great mix, one of my favorite albums lately...

"Paper Tiger" has been going through my head...

The bass line on "End of the Day" is one of my favorites.

I got into Beck a lot last year and really enjoy all of his abums. Odelay is probably my favourite, but Sea Change is excellent!

Funny, I saw this thread and I am currently listening to "Debra" off of Midnite Vultures. Great track.

I have every one of his albums, but I do really dig Sea Change alot. Probably my second favorite after Odelay.

"Lost Cause" is probably the most beautiful song he's ever done.

yeah odelay is my favorite as well...

But, I have to say, for the most part, I really got into 'Guero'..

for some reason, I didn't get into 'mutations' that much, maybe time for a re-try on that one..

'the information' was pretty cool as well...I don't find myself listening to it much though..

Absolutely stunning album. Round The Bend is one of my all time favourite songs, easy.

ive seen beck perform twice. once was right after odelay came out and i was lucky enough to see ben folds five open for him. great show.

the second time was right after the tour where the flaming lips played with him, and as a shout out to them beck played "do you realize".....amazing song, and a great cover of it. dashboard confessional opened that time, whcih was fun, but not nearly as good as ben folds.

either way, i love everythign about beck, one of my biggest musical influences for sure.

as wild and unorganized as it was, i really dig "mellow gold" as well. i think i would put "sea change" over "odelay" for my favorite beck albums, as i think "sea change" has some of the best written songs of the last 10 years on it for alternative rock. "golden age" is an amazing song.

saw Beck in support of his Midnight Vultures cd, he puts on one of the best shows i've ever seen. he signed my buddies zigzag package, that was cool.

I definitely think Beck was one of the best things to come out of the 90's. "Sea Change" is a great mood album, and "Paper Tiger" is a great bass performance.

"Mutations" is probably my favorite album--love the organic feel. Plus it was recorded at Ocean Way Studio B, where the mixing board had only 3 way switches (hard right, center, hard left) for panning. One very lazy day I listened to it 3 times all the way through, panned left, right, and center. A lot of thought obviously went into what went where in the stereo field--it gave me a deeper appreciation for Nigel Godrich' production skills.

I like Sea Change but the first half dozen times I listen to it I could not get past how much Beck borrowed (IMO shamelessly) from Serg Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson.
