hey all,

would really appreciate some help with this. I've got a squier vintage modified 70's Jazz Bass (http://81.169.170.65/beyers/pics/2006786.jpg) and i'd like to paint the body candy apple red.

the main reason for this is because it's a two part body and the join is so obvious. and i've always wanted a candy apple red guitar. :hyper:

could i just paint over the finish as is? or does it need sanding back to the wood and then a primer, then the paint, and then a poly or lacquer
coating?

i read somewhere on here, somebody sanded down the poly to a matt finish then painted straight over that. would that work?

does the paint need to be a specific type or would car paint work ok?

thanks a lot,
tim

depending on the type of car paint you want to use. I believe Fender is still using enamel finishes on their instruments. If so, you need to be careful unless you use an enamel also. Do a test on the back with the paint you want to use, so as not to ruin too much finish. Remember, good sanding before the re-finish is mandatory.
