Comments, suggestions, and constructive criticism all welcome.

i've been planning my first build for a long time, and have finally settled down on a design/wood/electronics package.
through much refinement i've come up with something that takes elements from many basses, but is heavily based on the Benavente 219B. As a teen, a benavente is a little out of reach, but building my bass over the course of several months lets me pay for supplies as needed, when i can afford them.

The sketch on the left is a rough idea of the latest permutation (i'm going to have beave photoshop the final design), in the middle is the 219B, and on the right is the headstock design i've chosen.

Specs:

5 string (e-c)

neck through maple-wenge-maple-wenge-maple

34" scale

18mm string spacing

maple wings

Padouk top w/ matching headstock veneer

Fretless epoxied Birdseye Maple Fingerboard

delano 5 string MM pick w/ matching birdseye cover

passive vol tone/mid from HAS sound :bassist:

hipshot ultralite tuners

no not to scale, just a drawing on scratch paper after a standardized test

That looks pretty cool and different enough from the 219B that it's not that noticeable.

I also always drew basses after test in high school (and college).

Also, just let me know when you'd like me to work my magic.

It looks very nice.

I would curve the line of the three knobs to follow the body edge.

I would do something with the headstock. It looks like you have angled string pull on the E and A strings, with straight pull for the D, G, & C strings, which looks odd. Also, this makes it so the G & C tuners are barely on the headstock, with the knob shafts fully exposed, while the E and D tuner knob shafts are completely buried.

[ edit ] Looking at it again, the tuner knob shafts are not actually properly lined up with the tuner string shafts anyway, so I guess that's still a "scratch" picture to some extent.
