VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Bass body--Toilet Seat!!
Wild Rice Chris 10-25-2007, 11:09 PM Semi-hollow clear pine and particle board (seat), nitrocellulose lacquer on the center and back. Carvin humbucker, volume, tone, series/parallel/single-coil switch.
My dad had an idea in the 70's that he could build a guitar out of anything so he built one out of a toilet seat. About 6 years ago a few people saw it and asked us to build them one. The bass was the 5th (and last) and had a few different necks/pickups (Slammer, Kramer, and MIK Squier necks, originally a Schaller pickup and then the Carvin in the picture).
Now together as a complete bass for $350, see post #32 in this thread for pics.

arbitrary 10-26-2007, 01:07 AM That looks a lot like Yankee stadium.
bassteban 10-26-2007, 01:09 AM There's a local luthier nearby that makes mandolins, guitars, etc out of stainless steel bedpans. They have remarkable punch, clarity & volume, & he sells them for $500 & up. He calls them 'Commodians'.
bassinstincts 10-26-2007, 08:24 PM What did it sound like when it was intact? Thanks.
Wild Rice Chris 10-26-2007, 08:26 PM Fat with a strong midrange. Good attack, not compressed.

rogerbmiller 10-26-2007, 08:52 PM Do you have any toilet seats made of bass bodies for sale?
I'd be in the market for those:cool:
Seriously, this is far and away the most clever "crafts" bass I have ever seen. Love the creativity!
Good luck with the sale.
Mr.Chucklebunny 10-26-2007, 09:05 PM Fat with a strong midrange. Good attack, not compressed.
Good thing it's not compressed, constipation can be such a drag.
Yankeesfan1115 10-26-2007, 09:15 PM That looks a lot like Yankee stadium.
:O
Wild Rice Chris 10-26-2007, 10:10 PM I just remembered that there was a gap between the toilet seat and the treble side of the neck, cosmetic issue only.
For a complete bass using an Allparts neck, the price is $500 plus shipping.
Vin_MM_Sabre_79 10-26-2007, 10:16 PM Has it got a lid?
Wild Rice Chris 10-26-2007, 10:17 PM No lid, no TP, no scrubbrush. Stains can be arranged.

fcappi 11-23-2007, 10:56 PM Why is everyone Dumping on this thing???
Wild Rice Chris 11-23-2007, 10:59 PM I think I just need to pick up a Squier neck off eBay and keep the damn thing.
Smurf-o-Deth 11-23-2007, 11:54 PM Too...many...puns...thread...verging on...implosion...
You mentioned that the neck and body had a gap on the treble side...do you think a little drano would help make it flush?
BOOM
scrove 11-24-2007, 01:13 AM Wow, that one was really corny...
Wild Rice Chris 11-24-2007, 06:57 AM I'm taking this off the market (getting a Squier neck for it and hanging on for the moment) but will leave the thread up for comic relief in the forum. ;)
