All righty, with much regret I am selling GS5 #2. The pictures linked are from Mikebass (thanks!). Due to a continuing battle with tendonitis I'm moving back to 34 in scale.

This bass has an ash body and maple board with a Glockenklang 3-band onboard preamp and Nordstrand dual coil pickups. I've currently got it strung with D'Addario stainless strings and I've got the action VERY low. The bass is extremely light in weight and very responsive - truly one of the nicest basses I've owned - period (and I've owned A LOT of basses). The Glock pre is very transparent but warm with tasteful and usable boost all the way across the frequency spectrum. I usually run it in single coil mode, but have run it in dual with a bit of mid boost and the pickup pan all the way to the bridge and gotten a pretty tastey Music Man tone out of it. It's a very versatile bass.

Now for the pictures:

The construction and fit & finish of this bass are as good as it gets. Sadowsky, Fodera, you name the boutique luthier - this is every bit as good. Seriously! If you are a fan of swamp ash and maple, this is a fantastic example of what a gifted luthier can do with those woods. I'll try to get Joel C. to send me the link to Laurence Cottle playing one of these (same wood combo) live so you can hear how amazing they sound. Were it not for the tendonitis issues I would not be selling this. $2250 shipped in the continental US. :bawl:

**EDIT: That reminds me... somewhere there's a clip of Mikebass playing it live as well, in a Christmas show. It slams!

dang, i LOVE these basses. Have to agree, one of the best basses I've ever played, although I never played this one, I played one at Joel's shop and it blew me away.

Bump for a great price on an even greater bass.

This is a lot of bass for the money. A TON of attention goes into everyone of the GS5's but the earliest ones got even more so. With the amout of time that Dave Segal put into the earliest runs they should be twice the price.

Found it!
Mind you it's a YouTube upload so you lose a little.
This clip is from the ending of the opening number of the "opener" of our Christmas services last year.

GS5 into >Demeter Compulator>split signal between Thunderfunk/Demeter Tube DI>FOH.
The signal is about 60%/40%. The 60% being the Tube DI taking a flat signl from the bass.

Enjoy!!!

BTW- the girl who start off singing the song (Abbey Rondo) was on Americian Idol last year.

I don't post many "praise" posts for basses, but this one just looks SO RIGHT!
Mikebass....very tasty playing on that clip by the way, especially at the break down where it's only voices and the bass.
Good luck with the sale!

This is a bump looooooooooong overdue. Many, many apologies to those interested in this bass and other gear I had up for sale. Without going into everything, there were some relatively serious issues that kept me out of commission for literally months.

Thanks

Welcome back bump Erich! That's one sweet lookin GS.

Thanks, Roy. It's a player, no question. I love this bass. The 35 in scale just isn't going to work for me anymore. It's hard to believe that an inch makes that big a difference (try and resist the sophomoric jokes, gentlemen), but it does for me. The good news is that now the Groove Shoppe boys can do GS5's in 34 in scale, and that is going to be my next custom purchase. :help:

Bump for a great bass and seller.

I had the pleasure of playing this bass when Mike had it. Beautiful fit and finish, lightweight and a beautiful feel and balance on the strap.

The tone is very cool also.. you can get that 'Jazz on Satin' sort of FBass tone in single coil mode (not exactly the same, of course, but in that tone universe to my ear), and it really fattens up and burps in dual coil mode. I believe Joel and the boys spec'd the Glock pre to have a lower treble shelving frequency than the 'off the shelf' model, and it's nice... sparkle but some growl also.

Anyone looking for a more sophisticated, modern and smooth J like tone with additional versatility will IMO love this bass!

damn, if you find a guy interested in my Jerzy Drozd I'd be all over it. I remember seeing a video demo of this bass a good while back, and loving the tone. In fact I could swear that the demo player at the time was Vic Wooten....his face was hidden but those hands were so familiar....:ninja:

...The 35 in scale just isn't going to work for me anymore. It's hard to believe that an inch makes that big a difference...

I'm really glad to hear you say that - it lets me know I'm not alone. I cannot comfortably play any 35" scale bass I've ever tried. Some players look at me like I've got two heads when I say that, but it's the truth. In my case the combination of tendinitis and carpal tunnel have made the kinds of stretches the 35" scale requires impossible. In fact, even the 34" scale can be tough sometimes if I'm playing close to the nut for too long.

I'm really glad there are manufacturers out there who make 34" 5-strings, and I'm deliriously happy that I found and was able to afford one of the 34" 5-string Laklands. Now if I could only find a fretted one to match it...:ninja:

Actually, I was in the two headed viewing camp prior to becoming afflicted w/ this ailment. I used to switch b/w 34, 35 and 36 in scale basses. I never noticed a significant difference in feel b/w 34 and 35 in scales, but after the tendinitis issue, I just get sore/achy after only a few minutes of standard position playing on the 35. :( I really love this bass. . .
