I'm a bass player, living in Tokyo.
Now, I have a schedule to visit New York City in September to see my friend, and I'm also interested in visiting bass shop there to find my new bow.
So, will you tell me about double bass shop in New York?

:RE: What do you want to know? There are two popular ones that I know of there, David Gage string repair, and Bill Merchant's Bass Shop.David Gage is at 36 Walker St. Phone is (212) 274-1322. I think his prices are inflated, though.Bill moved his shop from Chelsea 23rd St. I forget where he is now. If you have time, I reccomend going to Kolsteins Music in Balwin, NY, About an hour and a half outside of New York city. Good Luck! http://www.talkbass.com/ubb/smile.gif

Let's remember that Nao said he's looking for a bow, not a bass. I'm sure that Kolstein, Gage, and Schnitzer have bows. I would expect the others to have them, but I don't know how many.
NAO: One of the finest bowmakers in the USA is Susan Lipkins. They sell for $3,000 in the USA, and I know that dealers in Japan buy her bows and then double the price. If you want to reach her, e-mail me. She lives in a rural New York State.
