I am the only owner of this bass. it is a wonderful orchestra bass. Unfortunately, I can no longer afford to keep it. It is a full size instrument with a 41 inch string length and sloping shoulders for access to the upper register. I have played recitals on it but it was obviously made for orchestral playing. It has a very even sound throughout each register with a full tone in the lower end where you would expect it. The varnish is more brown than the usual orange. Of course you will expect me to say complimentary things about the instrument, but I honestly have not heard a better sounding Pollman.
Price - A new bass like this will cost 20,000.00 Euros. I will sell for 20,000.00 US Dollars OBO.

I'll second that! This bass sounds amazing. I heard him play the Mozart Requiem with this bass (decent sized orchestra and one bassist), and he totally filled the hall. The only one that I've heard that comes close, or sounds as good, is Andy Anderson's bass, and it's also a 1978 five stringer.
D - Sad to see you part with this one. We'll have to talk when I'm in town next month :)
