I agree completely, i think that most guitar, bass, and drum stereotypes are that those positions are all usually filled by men. So to me seeing any of the mentioned above played by a female its just so awesome, not to mention when they play it well!

You know, it's pretty much a double standard when you think that a pretty woman doesn't have talent enough to be here.

Rana Ross, Tal Winkenfield and Rhonda Smith have credentials that most of us would kill for. Talent and looks have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Indeed! However, the best combinations for record companies (okay, recording distribution businesses today) are those that are good looking (in someone's opinion) for stage presence AND have chops to spare. Personally, for me, it's all about the music...the personification of the soul. For the younginz out there, the person has to be hot first, and musical second (and if anyone hasn't noticed, it's the younginz that have the most disposable income of any age group). Attractiveness also has something to do with one's orientation, but, truthfully, that is also a matter of age. With age comes wisdom and experience, and beauty and good looks fade. At my age, I'd rather sit in a room with a player with fantastic chops to see what I can learn rather than with a young, attractive (some might say hot) student of the instrument who knows roots and eighth notes. For some college kids I know, however, just the opposite is their reality. Some of the best musicians I know aren't attractive - which is why they're studio musicians.

As for your myspace, anyone who plays a maple fingerboard is OK in my book. Your photo (if that is your real photo) purports you to be a very attractive person - so let's hear some basschops rather than singing and lead guitar and disprove my theory.

I'm totally in agreement that it's way cool to see the fairer sex behind the predominantly male roles of lead guitar, bass, or drums! There was a local band playing the bar that is close to me a month or two ago, the bassist was female, and also the lead singer! :eek: That show totally blew me away! I wish that I had gotten some pics or could remember their name... but alas it escapes me. :bawl:

I think they have to be "hosted" now, two icons in the "POST REPLY" toolbar allow you to specify a URL

When you post, there is a button that says "Manage Attachments." That brings up a pop up window where you can browse your hard drive for a pic - I think your limit per post is two, but there may also be limits on how big the files are.

I would have to agree. I saw her on a show over here, called Spicks And Specks, she wasn't playing bass at all and she was just scary looking.

Yeah, point taken, but I just like seeing women playing bass. It doesn't have to be a sexy thing, so "hot" or not, I don't care. Chrissie Hynde is one of my favorite rock artists, and she ain't hot by pretty much anyone's definition, but she's damned cool with her "go f*** yourself" attitude, her bangs and her telecaster. My point is that not only do bass players not get into pics enough, regardless of gender, but female bass players even less so. "Cool" is irrespective of gender, and in many cases irrespective of "hotness." I'd intended this to be an opportunity for female bass players to show off their cool factor to those of us who appreciate it - as an early poster in this thread pointed out there's already a thread called "bass babes" for anyone who wants to look at hot chicks with basses - not that there's anything wrong with that either (hey, I've been there more than once), I'm just saying, this thread ain't meant to be that thread.

Yes, Sheryl is a fantastic bassist!! Very tight, great groove! Aimee Mann & Johnette Napolitano are two other fantastic bassists, I saw Til Tuesday years ago, just fantastic!
And I saw Johnette with Concrete Blonde back around 1990, one of the best shows I ever saw. Just a trio, and she rocked the house!!!!!

That one has me really torn. I dig Clatter. We played a handful of shows with them back in the late '90s when they were still a 3 piece. Amy is an awesome player. LOL. I used to drive from the airport all the way accross 98th Avenue to Interstate 580 to pick up Highway 13 to go to Walnut Creek. Now that's a pretty savory route, I must say. There was a little restaurant along the way ... The Best of Two Worlds ... "not only hamburgers, but hot dogs, too!" It was long closed, and somebody had plastered the entire exterior of the building with posters of Chairman Mao.
