Post you bass nightmares.


I had one last night:

I get home and go to pick up my bass, but then :eek:
The fretboard has 3 chunks that have just fallen off, just below the G at about the 7th, 12th, and 17th frets!!
I spent the rest of the dream trying to figure out what the hell happened to my bass. Here are some of the things I did:
-looked really closely at the humidistat to see if it was really dry and the wood just dried out and started to fall apart
-looked at where my bass case was stored to see if it could have falled
-noticed it was the WRONG bass case. My bass didn't fit - someone must have been playing my bass and ?? Accidentally left the wrong case when they brought it back? Or what?

Oh the horror!

I have had a dream where i keep going to pickup my bass and the neck and body just seperate...oh the horror

These aren't nightmares. These actually happened to me:

Playing live. Starting the second set with a 3-song medley, probably 7-8 minutes long.

The tip of my guitar strap breaks just a couple of measures into the medley and I just do catch my Ric with both hands. In order to play, I sit on the stage indian-style and do my best. How awkward. I then had to find another strap and there was a long pause.

Other than that - more like a band nightmare. Twice had gigs where into the first song we manage to trip all the circuit-breakers and everything electronic, including most of the lights, shuts down.

I dreamed my sixer was a grizzly bear and that it attacked me but I subdued it by slapping it in the E. Then I drug it to the local ho-down and played the night away while the grizzly sang. It had a beautiful voice...

...just last night I dreamed that I was at a tiny music store, checking out the instruments....playing around with ukes, basses, guitars, etc....
...there's one really cool looking bass hanging on a rack that catches my eye - for some reason, it reminds me of a person hanging up there....when I pick it up, the neck just below the headstock stretches out about eight inches, like a trombone, changing the pitch of the strings as it does....makes the bass sound like some demented squeezebox...

I had a nightmare that we finished packing up gear--and my bass was gone. Stolen. I wept.

Glad it was just a nightmare. But it'll sure keep me alert for the next little while.

I had a dream FedEx delivered a MM SUB that was flawless to me with a dime sized hole in the box and a puncture dent in the back of the bass, I then dreamed I sent it back to FedEx and they claimed they couldn't find the damage.

I woke up and remembered I am living this nightmare right now.

dropping my best bass.....and it cracking....or breaking apart............omg....i dont even wanna think about it....

I had this nightmare in which I had sent my bass in for some repairs and when it came back it was a different bass made of some plywood ****...

I've dreamt that for various reasons my neck snapped off and I was left with a now useless neck-thru bass =*(

I dreamed that I showed up to a gig in my underwear, when I got my bass out it was a big rubber ball on a broomstick. I had to bounce the ball for every note and how hard it hit determined the pitch. I actually played it pretty well tho.......

I think that in this case the nightmare came true... I feel so sorry for him

I dreamt that I made a thirteen string bass that played intune and sounded amazing recorded but no-one in the whole wide world believed me!!!

Oh it was horrible!!!!

1 - I wake up, and I'm in a world where there are nothing but Warwicks to play. (yeah, I know, let the flaming begin! ;))

2 - I find myself at a gig with label execs, and all of my basses are strung with flatwounds. We're playing rock and roll, too.

3 - I'm in an alternative universe, where only Wish basses are available.

4 - A record exec offers me a contract, paying me 10 million bucks a year. He shoves the contract across the table, but says "you know, you'll have to play country."

5 - The same scenario as above, but he says "you have to play I-IV-V for all eternity, and listen to guitar players jerk each other off all night." In my case, this is known as bass player hell.

6 - I wake up, and Alembic never existed.

7 - I arrive at a gig only to have a Behringer as the amp of choice. (more flaming to begin shortly! ;))

8 - I'm hired by Rush, after Geddy's departure, to replace him. I show up with an Alembic, and they say, "say, can't you play that old P-Bass in the corner instead?"

9 - My custom Series II Alembic John Entwistle replica arrives, except it's in the shape of a Warwick Buzzard, with a Warwick neck. (Flaming, part III)

10 - I arrive in Heaven, am hired to be the bass player in the house band, and God is a disco fan.

Was due a fret job too after a decade + of roundwounds.

I had a dream I jammed with Fieldy once.

Didn't bother me, but I'm sure that qualifies as a nightmare for many of you.

well i start a vacation where my main goal is to play bass all day. First day of vacation i got to lunch. Returning to find 2 basses I have had less than a month have been stolen. that one came true and now i am very perinoid. The other is my bass falling and breaking during a gig

i dreamt i was playing my bass when all of a sudden the finish started rubbing off where my hand and arm had been and all the paint kept falling away till it revealed a huge behringer logo that had been painted over :( it was awful

I had a really weird dream that I was asked to play a worship gig as a session bassist.
I got there and began to set up and my Shergold begins to shriek loudly. The cable then blows out all my (original) electrics. The bass then falls apart.

Hey that was mean! You probably play a Squier or something so you can't say anything!

I had a nightmare once where I was playing bass in a show choir and we were doing this really gay version of Funkytown, but I was cool with it because I had my 5-string and I was rockin' out on the low C and I was slappin' away. But then the director says "That's too low, can you take it up an octave or two? And that sound's a little harsh."

No wait, that really happened.

Once I had a dream that I have to play "You got another thing coming" and when I started to headbang and jump suddenly all the electronics are literally pulled out of the bass and the controll cavity is simply empty... that was scary as hell.

I had a good dream that I recieved a really nice Fender Bassman stack. I woke up looked over at my amp and it was just my Peavey Combo 115. I had no idea what had happened I went upstairs and asked my mom "Wheres my Bass amp?" She just looked at me like I was retarded or something.

My typical bass dreams are exercises in futility. A great act comes into town (say Tower of Power or EWF). Somehow I convince them that I should be allowed to sit in. They agree, and then I realize my bass is 2 miles away, and I have to walk to go get it. I am more than willing, since I usually have a REALLY good bass (like a 1961 PBass) to play. I go and get it, but it takes me about 6 hours to return (due to the involvement in other adventures which take my time while I am trying to get back to the gig of my life). When I finally return, TOP or EWF has already left, but someone tells me I can play with a church worship band instead.

I had one awful dream that I tried to sand out a very small dent on my 1978 PBass & ended up sanding away the entire neck. A body with a pile of sawdust, with an important gig coming up in an hour.

Sorry to hear that you guys have had to live real-life nightmares!

Not a bass nightmare, but last nigh I had a nightmare in which my cousin stepped on my violin and it cracked.
