I was looking at Vic's website and I noticed he had some tour dates with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. I wish I could go to one of those shows:(

I love Patitucci, but that sounds like it would be great to see.

Ah, the wonders of TB! I'd LOVE to see Vic live, he is one of my favourite players!

Was Jimmy Earl the last bassist to fill this chair, or has there been anyone since him? I really haven't kept up w/ Chick's music in years.

I think Mike Pope was in the mix of bass players too, I've heard John P, Jim Earl, Mike Pope with him. I think he uses guys when John can't do it, or maybe just trys fresh things. But, Yeah Vic would be cool to see with him!

Cool, I'd never even heard of Mike Pope until I saw Bill Bruford & Tim Garland's Earthworks Underground Orchestra live in NYC a couple years ago. Had no idea who he was or who else he'd played with, and haven't heard his name since, but man did he tear that sh*t up!

Yeah there was a Yahoo Video or Youtube video I saw with Mike on bass, and yeah he was playing the crap out of it!

while trying to look for a Wooten/Elektric Band YouTube clip I found this funny '80's Chick Elektric band clip...:smug:

Very cheesy, but the song is as cool as anything, and I dig the 80's vibe a lot!

They're playing L.A. on my birthday at Catalina, and I will be there. The week before, the same club has Mike Stern's group with Richard Bona, and I will be there as well.

You lucky git! :p

Not so wild about Bona but the other gig, wow! Neither is to be sniffed at though! :)

Catalina and La vi Lee are a couple of my favorites in your area.

Tal Wilkenfeld (sp??) did a tour of Australia this yeah with him/them.

I like Wooten, but for some reason, the fit just doesn't seem right to me.

Not saying he can't do it, hell if anyone could-he can, but for some reason, Wooten/Elektric Band Wooten/Elektric Band.
Doesn't seem right.

Ric Fierabracci did a whole tour with the Elektric Band about a year and a half ago.

Chick seems to get only killin bassists, of course!

I think Wooten has done a few shows with the Elektric Band already so it's been tested and it worked obviously. I can't wait to see the outcome!

I know he uses Patitucci whenever he possibly can, for obvious reasons! I believe Chick considers JP to be the finest bassist (electric or upright) around.. Sounds about right to me too.

Corea's been the special guest at some Flecktones shows, so I think Wooten probably sees it as returning the favor.

I wonder what Stanley Clarke would have to say about that? :p

(for my money I prefer Clarke on both instruments, even if JP is a wizard on the 6!)

I love their cheesy 80s videos. Here's another one. Although it isn't really too cheesy, try to spot the cameo.

IMO, any combination that doesn't include Patitucci isn't the Elektric Band. Taking nothing away from Wooten or any of the other phonominal guys who have held the bass chair in that band - I think it is a band, and Patitucci is a culturally significant part of it. His contribution gives the band its notable sound as much as Chick's.

It would be sort of like seeing Tribal Tech with somebody other than Willis, or seeing Garaj Mahal with somebody other than Eckhardt. No doubt whomever else would play bass in any of these groups would be awesome, as would the group with their contribution. But it should be called something different.

Again, IMO.

You make a good point, but to me, the Elektric band is Chick's baby. John is a big part of that, but I'd still say it everything is just a different incarnation of it. That is, unless Chick was missing from the line up!

That is, unless Chick was missing from the line up!Obviously that is Chick's feeling as well. And, I would still love to see the show. With Chick, Wooten, Gambale, and Weckl all playing at the same time, we might see a record for the most notes ever played in a single measure of music.

Nice! I got both of those Vid's on VHS had 'em for YEARS :) Also that Little MAC computer with the black and white screen that you see on Chicks workstation in the Elektric City Video, thats the same model I learned how to MIDI sequence on back in college in '91! We were using "Performer" great program! Love this old stuff.

Thats may be true! Though I'd try to avoid Gambale, I find him to be an absolutely awful player for some reason! :hmm:

oy!!! Are you sure you don't just dislike his tone? If you get a chance to hear him on a hollowbody or acoustic guitar you are in for a treat.

His tone I often find I can't stand, though I much preferred it when he was using his Ibanez signature model as opposed to his new Yamaha. But even then, I think there is more to it than the guitar. I don't really find his tone all that bad, it's his note choices that grate on me! A lot of the time on the Gambale Hamm Smith albums he thunders about ruining tracks with some very dubious (imo) outside playing, which is a shame because Hamm and Smith are an awesome combination. :hmm:

I dug the Elektric Band with the rhythm section of Jimmy Earl and Gary Novak, they added some grease to the band. Chick did add a "II" to differentiate between the two though.
