Do you see people get complimented on how good they are , when they are an average player but look good? My wife was singing in a choir last weekend and I could not pick her voice out , but she looked the best and had the best expressions up there. Later some one came up to her and told her she was very good singer and needs to be one the main singers. [she is an average singer]

I wouldn't doubt it. It is no different than the fact that I am tall, so I get the advantage of being more successful in interviews.
That or people are trying to pick your wife up ;).

Look good? At least look confident. Try not to grimace at any mistakes, just smile and let 'em go. Keep your attitude up and let it show. Relate to your band mates and the audience with eye contact. Stay hydrated, and get a good nights sleep.
All the above will show. Whether you're a great player or not, if YOU look like things are going well, you'll give the impression that you PLAY well.
Keeping good time helps, too.
