VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Wilkins PJ For Sale...Top Notch Everything
adam clinton 11-16-2007, 12:01 PM All
Selling a Wilkins PJ (made by Pat Wilkins who does finish work for Lakland and Sadowsky USA stuff)
He builds a small # of basses that usually sell new between $2500-$3500.
Chambered mahagony body, myrtle top and headstock cap, ebony board and ebony knobs with abalone lines, abalone dots, zero fret, hipshot hardware, Fralin pickups, and high end tweed case etc...His finish work is second to none. Sound and playability are top notch. More of a modern look and sound than I like at the moment, but a great bass in mint condition. My vintage P is getting all the love lately.
Looking for $1,500 but am flexible if you want to make a reasonable offer, it is just sitting around and is too nice to lay in a case!!
Thanks for looking - Adam

Quadzilla 11-16-2007, 12:06 PM Damn that's nice!
adam clinton 11-16-2007, 12:13 PM Thanks...His basses really are unknown gems...I have owned Wal, Elrick, Fodera, etc and it is on par with those (which are all great basses, I can't say which i best). Hopefully it can find a good home, a handmade bass like this for about the same price as a new Fender should be fair for someone looking
adam clinton 11-16-2007, 03:08 PM Just realized I forgot to post this with initial entry...
Here are some other Wilkins basses for sale plus his website (since I know he is probably unknown to most)...you can compare, I think this one more than holds its own against any of these.

It was a special custom order for George Biondo of Steppenwolf, the bottom of this site references his use of Wilkins basses

shamrock&roll 11-17-2007, 10:52 AM Free bump for you. If I didn't pick up my Mike Lull bass, I'd grab this in a heartbeat. Pat makes amazing basses. He works next door to a producer that I know where my friends work and record. They use Pat's basses at the studio. They record great. Is it passive? What is the nut width?
JAUQO III-X 11-17-2007, 05:48 PM I think this one more than holds its own against any of these.

How can you say that?
adam clinton 11-17-2007, 06:16 PM Will reply to both the comments...yes it is passive, they Fralins sound great in it, I will have to check the nut width.
To JAUQO's comment that is a very fair point, I didn't play those other basses. I meant it more than holds its own from the materials used in its construction. The myrtle top and headstock veneer plus ebony knobs and board are not the standard on his basses.
adam clinton 11-18-2007, 07:40 PM Bump...make me an offer...this bass needs to be played!
JAUQO III-X 11-18-2007, 08:08 PM This really is a great price for a high qaulity instrument made by a great guy.
adam clinton 11-20-2007, 06:54 AM Bump...I got an offer for $1,200, but never heard back. Will lower price to anyone interested to $1,200 shipped...I thought it was a great price at $1,500 so we'll try $1,200
Thx - Adam
rockr4Christ 11-21-2007, 11:37 PM hey do you have a recording to hear?
thanks
trev
JAUQO III-X 11-22-2007, 12:17 AM I own a Wilkins 5 string and the qaulity is right up there with the more familiar names that's been around for years.
And you will not find a Wilkins any where for this price.
adam clinton 11-22-2007, 10:15 AM Don't have any recordings using this bass, most recent stuff I did in the studio was more on the jazz/rock side so used my P bass..
Like a few on the thread have said, very high end sound that records well, just can't say that I have recorded with this actual bass
rockr4Christ 11-22-2007, 10:46 AM whats the tone layout?
vol. vol. blend?
ShirazBop 11-22-2007, 02:00 PM What does the Bass weigh and what is the width at the nut please?
adam clinton 11-22-2007, 03:23 PM Controls are 2 volumes and a master tone...
Not at home now, but prob weighs 9 ish pounds (chambered body helps), medium profile neck.
I have a tentative deal with FullCircle for the bass, thanks for comments and looking...If anything changes will re-post
Adam
