VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Tye Zamora+brase= massive surprise
trb6pJM2 11-22-2007, 10:23 PM I was not a bass player when Smooth Criminal covered by alien ant farm was out and I didn't realize til I went back and looked at the video, he's using a KL brase.
I don't want to sound like a hater, but, it really surprised me to see such an upper crust instrument in such a.... mediocre shall I say? band.
Dunno, just thought some people might want to know. and it was also a message to all those that say that you can't fit an "elfish" bass like a brase into a band setting.
have their been any other basses bassist pairings that really surprised anyone else here?
jerry 11-22-2007, 10:38 PM I'm no AAF expert, but I thought Tye was a real good player, and that band seemed to have a sense of humor abut themselves.....something that is lacking in a lot of bands!
superbassman2000 11-22-2007, 10:43 PM I thought he worked with a luthier to make that bass--not a KL IIRC
trb6pJM2 11-22-2007, 10:44 PM haha yeah, I like that in them.
NOTE: I am in no way saying he is a bad player, but I'm just saying, the coralation wasn't there in my mind between AAF and A brase, but that may just be me :D
trb6pJM2 11-22-2007, 10:46 PM I thought he worked with a luthier to make that bass--not a KL IIRC
you might be right, but I think it was a KL.
superbassman2000 11-22-2007, 10:56 PM nah the bass I am thinking of is his dave parr custom, but I was in the wrong music video--that was his "movies" video not smooth criminal
i thought it was a six string fender custom shop that looks nothing like any fender ever made??
bassteban 11-22-2007, 11:09 PM AFIK, he built(w/help)a bass similar to the Fender(commisioned/endorsed/whatever after AAF took off)but I've also seen him w/a KL Brase.
Matt Till 11-23-2007, 11:00 AM I acquired a copy of the album with Smooth Criminal on it from a discount bin for $0.99 (ha, actually it was a half off day, so roughly $0.50... haha). Really annoying whiney borderline nu-metal all around, but a few tracks had really good bass playing.
vegas532 11-23-2007, 11:20 AM When I worked for GC, Tye was a regular at my location. I've heard what he can do outside of AAF and believe me, he's in the top percentile of bassists I've heard in my life. He can nail everything fromthe "nu-metal" school all the way up to complex fusion grooves and Jaco-esque solo play. Trust me, AAF never gave him the opportunity to show his real-world capabilities!
The Lurker 11-23-2007, 03:26 PM AFIK, he built(w/help)a bass similar to the Fender(commisioned/endorsed/whatever after AAF took off)but I've also seen him w/a KL Brase.
first bass was built with luthier guy, though I forget which one. That bass was reportedly destroyed in a traffic wreck in Europe that IIRC put the whole band in the emergency room. Fender's CS then made him his current bass.
Baryonyx 11-23-2007, 04:33 PM He always sounded like the most talented player in AAF. I've no doubt that he was/is capable of much, much more!
Rusty Chainsaw 11-24-2007, 12:21 AM Tye played in a Primus cover band before AAF, so he's got all the "Claypool-isms" down, plus there's some very tasty melodic work on some of the AAF album tracks. He's up there with Ryan Martinie as being among the best bassists to come out of the whole "nu-metal" thing. I'd be interested to hear what he's up to now.
Baryonyx 11-24-2007, 07:32 AM I heard name of the band was "Tyemus" or something....
Bhuti 11-24-2007, 07:51 AM Tye is an awesome player, met him once. He also had a custom fender in the works for him, but i think something fell through with that deal, i'm not sure. But i don't think his bass outweighs the music he played. When i saw them live, the bass was ALWAYS strong in the mix and that just pushed the music further.
Awesome bass too.

He did get the Fender, but it certainly doesn't look like any other Fender bass!

I bet if i dig around online i can find it... Good for him that he got it!
j-raj 11-24-2007, 10:54 AM Tye is actually very much a badass. Many bassists or other musicians for that fact, when they start playing for a more commercial group, tend to play for the song... not to showcase every Vic/Jaco/Les/Flea lick they have in their vocabulary.

Along with this KL, that custom Fender 6 suits him, his playing and his sense of humour.
Anybody have a pic of that other 6'er that he built for himself?
neptoon 11-29-2007, 09:47 AM the luthier that built his original bass was dave parr...well, tye did some of the work...crazy bass, and a great player
Jay Terrien 11-29-2007, 09:50 AM They got rid of Tye a long time ago. That's new bassist and Ken Lawrence aficionado JEAN BAUDIN!!! ;)

j-raj 11-29-2007, 11:36 AM nice :smug: .... kinda looks like him, doesn't it?
MoD_Scotty 11-29-2007, 02:26 PM I think that band was very underrated. Especially the bassist.
According to Wiki, Tye is currently enrolled at the Berklee College of Music. Good for him!
Redhotbassist 11-29-2007, 03:07 PM I used to listen to ANThology quite a bit, Tye is a thoughtful player and has a very smooth tone, He's very tight with the drums, the drummer is underrated aswell IMO.
The Lurker 11-30-2007, 09:30 AM I think that band was very underrated. Especially the bassist.

yeah, the original guitarist apparently quit too.
Baryonyx 11-30-2007, 04:26 PM yeah, the original guitarist apparently quit too.
That said, he was nowhere near as interesting as Tye, though IIRC he did have a Schecter signature model.
blizzard 12-01-2007, 05:15 AM I quite like AAF. They're really a fairly underrated band and Tye is a really great bass player who rarely gets any recognition.
iamlowsound 12-01-2007, 01:00 PM I think that band was very underrated. Especially the bassist.

I heard that he was TEACHING there. Either way, good for him. I really like ANThology, solid cd with great bass playing.

He has at least a couple different versions of the Fenders. Probably gets them for free or cheap. I'm guessing he endorses both Fender and SWR.
And there is a pic of the Dave Parr Custom (which Tye mostly designed and built himself) in an older Guitar And Bass buyers guide. The Fender was modelled after it.
smakbass 12-01-2007, 03:52 PM Lane poors in that Brase cool.
scuba steve 12-01-2007, 11:18 PM funny, i was just wondering about tye today. i was thinking "maybe i should start a thread on tb on how i never notice any talk about him". i think he is an amazing bass player that deserves more attention. he always seemed to have a real smooth and effortless look while playing. not to mention, he always seemed real down to earth and funny.
