VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : So what can we get Spanky for Christmas?
syciprider 11-25-2007, 01:29 PM Something to cheer the guy up c/o the FX forum.
It doesn't have to be a Lovetone ? or a Deep Impact. Just a token effect from us to him. I'm willing to PP a few bucks to whoever stands up to be the funds administrator.
Discuss.
Max Roberts 11-25-2007, 01:37 PM We have a look at the "What will SpankyPants be GASsing for next" thread we made ages ago, there'll be loads of ideas in there.

Max Roberts 11-25-2007, 01:43 PM I reckon that if we get enough people together, we could try and get the Ezekiel, he seemed to really want to try that one, I know D*A*M probably don't have any in stock, but if they read about his terrible ordeal they might make an exeption?
DbNBassist 11-25-2007, 02:04 PM i will chip in a couple of quid, sadly i dont have a job so cant chip in loads. But i will do my part, for him.
TheBigO 11-25-2007, 02:46 PM I remember a thread where someone posted clips, he seemed sure that he wanted the Electro-Shine chorus.
It's pretty manageable at around $85.

Good idea! He seemed pretty sure he wanted one of those.
KarateKid25 11-25-2007, 03:05 PM Whats actually happened to Spanky? I havn't seen him round here for a while now. I heard he was moving house and that was about the last of it.

Go to off topic and read his really sad story about what's been happening, the link is in Sir Edward V's signature if you can't find it. He really needs our help to cheer him up, this could be the perfect thing :).
markjazzbassist 11-25-2007, 03:17 PM i'll throw in for sure. the chorus sounds like a good idea, i'd also be up for trying to get him a crazier pedal too.
Tomass 11-25-2007, 03:25 PM Count me in as well, ive got some sitting in the ol' Paypal account. I hope to see Spanky Pants crusading the effects area again :)
bongomania 11-25-2007, 03:31 PM I'm in. He and I have exchanged a couple of emails via Facebook a few days ago; the good news is his back is feeling better and he is able to play his bass, so an fx pedal would be a fine thing to give. He also like theremin-type stuff, so I was sort of thinking about a circuit-bent Casio SK-1 instead of a pedal- that way he'd have something to play regardless of health issues or "other" issues that might inhibit access to a bass rig.
fenderhutz 11-25-2007, 03:36 PM A good lawyer :ninja:
bongomania 11-25-2007, 03:37 PM True dat.
syciprider 11-25-2007, 04:02 PM A good lawyer :ninja:
Does Tonefactor sell one?

The "other" issues that could block his access to a rig will more than likely block access to a k/b as well.:hmm:

Swift713 11-25-2007, 04:46 PM Wow, I am absolutely broke but I could chip in a buck for Spanky.
diechris 11-25-2007, 05:13 PM great idea. i dont have much but i'll be down to chip in something at least.
steve21 11-25-2007, 06:02 PM I was thinking maybe we could chip in for a Sir Spanks Super Box of Mega Awesome (S³BOMA) for short.
RickenBoogie 11-25-2007, 06:10 PM I don't know him, or any of you for that matter, but a helping hand is a good thing for all concerned. I have no paypal, but if someone would provide me a mailing address, I'd love to send a donation for the cause. Seems a very worthy cause indeed. Thanks.
seanm 11-25-2007, 06:14 PM I wouldn't get the Ezekiel, trust me, he *will* be underwhelmed. But I would pitch in a bit for something else.
Trevor.A 11-25-2007, 06:40 PM I'll pitch a little
grygrx 11-25-2007, 06:53 PM So who is willing (and trustworthy) to do the cash wrangling?
TheBigO 11-25-2007, 07:06 PM If he is up to it, I nominate Bongo.
I think Boo would be a fine choice as well.
If not, I'm certainly willing to do it.
bongo, boo, jetpackbassist, markjazzbassist, those regulars in america that seem like trustworthy fellows. any of em would be good candidates.
Lebowsky 11-25-2007, 07:33 PM I know him only from the various fx discussions and the OT thread about his current situation, but I'll definitely be in if something happens even though my financial situation ain't exactly bright at the moment.
MysticBoo 11-25-2007, 07:44 PM If he is up to it, I nominate Bongo.
I think Boo would be a fine choice as well.
If not, I'm certainly willing to do it.
I wouldn't trust me if I were you. :ninja:
:D
I wouldn't mind handling it, but more importantly, we need to figure out what to get first!
bongomania 11-25-2007, 07:48 PM I'm happy to do it. For reassurance to those that don't "know" me, here's my Ebay feedback:
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=ovnifx&ftab=AllFeedback&sspagename=STRK:ME:UFS
Once we decide on a specific pedal (I'm fine with that chorus, or whatever people think is best) everyone can send me whatever amount they're able to my Paypal address: bongomania (at) usa (dot) net ...and I'll keep track of it all in an Excel sheet, and divide up and refund any excess if there is any. Non-Paypal users please PM me and I'll give you my mailing address.
Also, I'm open to other suggestions for how to run it, so let me know if what I described does/n't work for you.
:bassist:
KromaatiKlauun 11-25-2007, 07:49 PM A talkbox, so we can now if it really shakes your teeth off if you use it with bass :D;)
flakeh 11-25-2007, 07:49 PM send me a mailing address and cash will be on its way wednesday.
If i get paid, that is.
TheBigO 11-25-2007, 07:57 PM Unless there are any objections, I think Bongo is our guy. (Thanks Cyrus)
I think once it's decided what to get him, we should keep track of donations in this thread or a new one, just so that people know when we are close to the goal.
I still think the Electro-Shine is very doable and something he's said he wanted in the past. If there is a great outpouring of donations, we could always change to something else (or even a second gift) but it's a good first goal at $85.
OhThePeacock 11-25-2007, 08:02 PM I'll send out 5 bucks if Bongo will post his address or just PM whoever would probably be a better choice.
codyAllen191 11-25-2007, 08:08 PM like people before me said....decide on a address for donations...and Im all in...just PM me when its decided.
Swift713 11-25-2007, 10:49 PM The Electro-Shine sounds good, I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least 85 of us who would gladly spend a buck to make Spanky smile :)
HELLonWheels187 11-25-2007, 11:00 PM What ever it is, it should really be custom painted.
The BurgerMeister 11-25-2007, 11:13 PM i'm glad to help, and i'll send bongo some ducats.
dirtgroove 11-25-2007, 11:43 PM I'm in.
syciprider 11-25-2007, 11:44 PM those regulars in america that seem like trustworthy fellows. any of em would be good candidates.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
Oops... sorry...
syciprider 11-25-2007, 11:47 PM Okay done and done, Bongo is our go to guy.
PP coming your way.
EricF 11-25-2007, 11:51 PM I'm in :) PP coming tomorrow. Mr. Spanks is a worthy cause.
meev992 11-26-2007, 12:09 AM A talkbox, so we can now if it really shakes your teeth off if you use it with bass :D;)
:smug:
bongomania 11-26-2007, 12:10 AM We're already at $45 received via Paypal, so Spanks may have more than one prezzie coming to him. :)
syciprider 11-26-2007, 12:14 AM Woohoo!:hyper:
syciprider 11-26-2007, 12:15 AM BTW we're not running foul of the charity thread rules are we? IMO we are clear as long as we're not actively promoting this in the other forums or through our sigs.
MysticBoo 11-26-2007, 12:17 AM My contribution is sent. :bassist:
3NotesAbar 11-26-2007, 12:50 AM I just sent mine. We will see Spanky again!!!
EricF 11-26-2007, 12:58 AM Sent! :D
markjazzbassist 11-26-2007, 01:04 AM Sent:)
TheBigO 11-26-2007, 01:20 AM My chips are in.
bongomania 11-26-2007, 01:24 AM ...And the chips are piling up nicely! I'll give another total in the morning, but let's just say Spanky has some friends. ;)
Max Roberts 11-26-2007, 01:57 AM Donation sent :D
Luke73 11-26-2007, 02:02 AM I don't know Spankypants - but I've read his posts a bit, and he seems like a cool guy who could use some cheer.
:)
I'm in for a donation. It's on the way.
;)
TaySte_2000 11-26-2007, 03:19 AM PM me your paypal addy Bongo I'll chip some in.
If we decide to get anything from ToneFactor (Mojo Hand, Sinister Analog or Boomstick), Catalinbread or Subdecay let me know and I'll speak to them directly.
I think a V8 Fuzz from Catalinbread would be cool, it self occilates and its small enough to hide in a body orifice it will also create theremin sounds with no bass plugged in :D
But yeah let me know, I've known about Spanky's situation for a couple of months and I've not read the thread yet but he's a good guy having a bad time so I'm all up for what ever help we can give him.
The BurgerMeister 11-26-2007, 04:52 AM donation sent. :)
if anything is needed GC-wise, let me know.
dirtgroove 11-26-2007, 04:59 AM Money sent vial paypal. Thanks Bongo.
syciprider 11-26-2007, 06:06 AM I think a V8 Fuzz from Catalinbread would be cool, its small enough to hide in a body orifice

Bassic83 11-26-2007, 06:18 AM Sent. Sorry it couldn't be more, but it's the season for giving, so I gotta spread some love around!
Bassic83 11-26-2007, 06:18 AM BTW, what's the total up to?
David Wilson 11-26-2007, 06:25 AM BTW we're not running foul of the charity thread rules are we? IMO we are clear as long as we're not actively promoting this in the other forums or through our sigs.
I need to look into this, while I approve of the sentiment whole heartedly I need to clarify what the restrictions are
TaySte_2000 11-26-2007, 06:52 AM Pics?

I have done a soundclip but I still can't upload it for a few more weeks
syciprider 11-26-2007, 07:44 AM Tayste: touche.
DMW: thanks
bongomania 11-26-2007, 07:57 AM So, we're presently at $210 received via Paypal. For those that missed it before, my Paypal address is: bongomania (at) usa (dot) net, and if you want to send a check or cash please PM me for my mailing address.
I'm keeping a running tally with individual percentages on an Excel spreadsheet, so if there ends up being any notable excess I'll have a precise way to divide it and inquire how people would like me to handle it.
:bassist: :bassist: :bassist:
Oh, and DavidMWilson, please let me know if there is a more proper TB method of doing this.
Sean S 11-26-2007, 08:22 AM We need a CARD to go with it
What do you think of including a list of contributors?
Max Roberts 11-26-2007, 10:08 AM So, we're presently at $210 received via Paypal.
Woah! We're doing great! Will this mean we get a more expensive present or just a few smaller less expensive ones? I think it would be nicer to get a few less expensive ones because it'll give him more to play with 'nd stuff.
I think atm we could get the Electro Shine Retro Chorus or whatever it's called and maybe a Catalinbread V8 because of TaySte's contact with Catalinbread.
Sean S 11-26-2007, 10:09 AM Heh.
Maybe we'll pool enough $$ for a Bass Whammy :D
Swift713 11-26-2007, 10:21 AM Paypal sent. :)
TaySte_2000 11-26-2007, 10:24 AM Payment Sent

I think it might be worth putting it to a vote once all the money has rolled in.
In the mean time I'll try and forward my V8 clip to someone I know Spanky would love it :p so if anyone wants to drop me there email address to host it that would be great.
Geddyfleaharris 11-26-2007, 10:47 AM Paypal sent.
Stu L. 11-26-2007, 11:12 AM I was thinking maybe we could chip in for a Sir Spanks Super Box of Mega Awesome (S³BOMA) for short.
I like this idea, mostly because of the shortened name :D Come on, his own Box of Awesome for a truly awesome fellow!
Bongo, I have PP $ ready, and willing to send if any additional funds are needed. By the time I saw this thread, there's already over $200!
-Stu
JoshC 11-26-2007, 11:19 AM I've got the Righteous Tones, he would most likely be underwhelmed. It's not quite as versitle as I was hopeing it would be. Although with the amount of money you guys have now I imagine you are looking are more interesting big things. ;)
Lebowsky 11-26-2007, 11:42 AM I think it might be worth putting it to a vote once all the money has rolled in.
In the mean time I'll try and forward my V8 clip to someone I know Spanky would love it :p so if anyone wants to drop me there email address to host it that would be great.
agreed, put a deadline on the money sending and then have a vote sounds a good idea...
I'm not sure I understoof you properly but if you need some webspace to host samples I may be able to help with a repository, let me know
oh yeah, and paypal sent :)
Max Roberts 11-26-2007, 11:51 AM I think it might be worth putting it to a vote once all the money has rolled in.
Yeah :)

Contribute - if you feel inclined to do so. Any excess funds will be returned in percentage to your contribution.
superbassman2000 11-26-2007, 12:01 PM payment sent!
EricF 11-26-2007, 12:03 PM BTW - Thanks to Sycip for thinking of the idea, and thanks to Bongo for facilitating it. :D
Stu L. 11-26-2007, 12:07 PM Contribute - if you feel inclined to do so. Any excess funds will be returned in percentage to your contribution.
I don't mind giving at all. I was just thinking that if an $85 pedal was bought, it would be that much easier for Bongo to refund one less person :)
Adam Barkley 11-26-2007, 12:17 PM Guys, I don't want be a wet blanket, but I'm going to close this until I hear Paul's ruling.
Sorry,
Adam
Edit by Paul: Sorry guys, I really hate to do this but this is one of those areas where we have to hold the line. Solicitations for $$$ are not allowed in the general forums - for those that weren't here back in Feb, here's the reason why: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310198
It's been a stickied rule in OT since then - and the same rule applies for the same reasons here (I'll add it to the core forum rules to prevent further confusion). If you want to post a link in your signature directing users to a 3rd party site where you're taking money, that is ok given the policy we have written. But threads to solicit $$$ unfortunately are not :(
Thanks -
Paul
