Is a bass overdrive actually worth it and if so wat one should u get.... i heard the boss overdrive is good and there is the one by homebrew witha pre amp built in

my favorite is the greedtone (www.greedtone.com) but if you aren't looking to pay the boutique price the fulltone bass drive is pretty good as is the sans amp bass drive DI. i wouldn't recommend the boss, but thats just personal opinion, if it works for you, great.

Yes...if it is needed for the music you're playing.

...what one should you get...

What ever one gives you the sound you like.

Some people like the Boss ODB-3, some people (many, actually) hate it. The same is true for a lot of pedals out there.

Selecting and overdrive/distortion/fuzz is like picking a pair of pants. There are lots of choices. Some fit you, some don't. Some are right for the occasion, some aren't.

As noted by mjb, the subject of overdrive/distortion/fuzz has been discussed more times than any other topic in this forum. The search function will give you days worth of reading material on the subject.

The stickies at the top of the fourm are also a good place to start.
