I have a rack already (Demeter pre, Crown Xti, Symetrix compressor, Korg tuner) so I have a preference for rack-effects to keep my rig easy to setup and tear down.

Does anyone have any recommendations for rack multi-effects? TC Electronics? Lexicon? Anything else? I haven't started playing with anything but was looking for places to start.

I cant think of any decent rack effects. They all seem to be pedals. If you want to keep it simple, I would recommend the Korg AX3000B and a Roland V-Bass

There are many multi effect units out there that would be great but it depends on the actual type of effects you are looking for. An old Digitech 256 or Alesis Quadreaverb will give you great chorus, reverb, flange and eq type effects but wont do anything in terms of octave, filter or synth sounds.

I much prefer a few select pedals to give me the exact sounds I want as opposed to a multi effect processor that will do "everything" at a mediocre level.

Eventide Eclipse. I'm in a similar situation and that's the one I'm saving for. Or maybe the TC Fireworx. I would recomend trying them out for yourself before making the jump. People have varying preferences/wants/needs.

I think the one that will suit the bass the best is the Line6 bass POD PRO.
I have had a few rack mount units and non did a good job with bass. Lexicon MX200, MPXG2, digitech studioQuad, and alesis.

I use a Boss VF-1 with a Beringer FCB1010 controller and I'm very happy with it (hate the Beringer controller though). Sounds good, easy to use and cheap on the used market. My only gripes is the pedal wah is part of the guitar group and is too thin for bass. What I did is trigger an EQ along the wah to keep a thicker tone.

I would have to agree on the Eventide, awsomeness in a rack, altough you wouldnt go wrong with a Boss VF-1 either.

I've been in the market for one mainly because of some of the bells and whistles that come with it (tuner, compressor, some effects) and figured for $169 I can take or leave the models and some effects.

Did you dislike the models or the effects or wha?

I just worked at an east coast TSO concert backstage and it was loaded with racks of the Line 6 Pod Pros. I guess they must work pretty good.

The Rocktron Blue Thunder has some very usable tones but works 100% better with the large model midi controller. It has some great delays, chorus, and even some decent compression and dry sounds. I still own it but took it out of my rack when I went through a change in bands and didn't feel the need for as many effects. They are sort of hard to find in music stores since not that many bassists are after specifically rack processors.

I'd stay FAR away from Behringer...Cheapest components in the world (literally). I've heard they buy huge bins of cheap pots, circuits, etc off of giant barges at the cheapest possible cost. They'll use whatever the cheapest part they can buy at the time, thus each batch of a product may end up with slightly different parts. You may get one that works OK or it may be a lemon.
Besides that, they sound like a$$. (wonder why)
There is some truth to "you get what you pay for"..

That being said, I haven't found a bass rack unit that does what I want. I end up using a pedalboard with a Radial Loopbone to bypass all the pedals when I'm not using them.

Sorry for my rant, but I HATE behringer. They rip off ideas and pay **** for wages, and we get a "deal". The American way...

Based on quite a few pro players using it, the Line 6 Bass POD Xt Pro seems to be quite usable. I like mine a lot and have seen several pro players listing it in their equipment. I guess it depends on what you are looking for, but it does the SVT sound pretty darn well.

I've been using a Guitar V-Amp pro for about 4 years, and it's been great. Most of the presets aren't perfect for me, but a little tweaking has given me quite a few that are exactly what I need. The one downside, is the lag when switching patches. I've just learned to hit the pedal on my FCB1010 about a half second before I need the change.

Drool Drool Drool!!! I haven't played through one of those in more years than I care to admit. I would love to find one for my current rig.

I will likely be trying an Eventide later this year.

After months of using it as a preamp with the FX bypassed I'm digging my Boss VF1 again. Multi tap delay with 20 taps, independently pannable... mmmm. Especially for the silly prices they go for.
