Ashamed for playing JET? you shouldn´t, if you felt good playing that music, there should be no regrets.
Ashamed for getting excited and ruining your bass...mmm i guess that was the ONE to throw and maim...after all it is an IBANEZ!!! (LOL). OK, but seriously, be grateful that it wasn´t a SADOWSKY!!!, for example. Learn from your mistakes, but if you do get some "High End" bass and do that crap again, i do not recommend that you post pics here, because you will get BASHED!!!

BillMason

Is it just cracked, or completely sheared off? If cracked, maybe some glue and some really good clamps will help fix it up? Keep the tape in either case though, and get some strap locks!! Or stop whipping your axe around... :-)

if it's completely sheared off, you are SOL - time to go shopping!

It sounds good, and it looks more rock'n'roll. What's the problem?

magnusdeus123
11-26-2007, 08:38 AM
No it's like a crack......but it's so minor....that I dont even want to open and pry and check out wth it is.....Tape's good enough .

I do have strap locks !! The entire screw got ripped out (basswood.......honestly can there be wood softer than this ?!?!) . Used the Toothpick method to fix it up again .

It's an Ibanez GSR 390....cheapo , but I guess I learnt my mistakes right now and here.......no more Rock and Roll , it's all downhill for me now.....*sigh*......gonna pick up jazz.....

I honestly think you have it backwards. You now have a genuine "beater" bass. It doesn't get more rock'n'roll than that. Keep throwing that one about, but mind your head. You can get another, more up-scale bass for the finer things, but my guess is that bass is perfect for the gigs where instruments get thrown about.

Right? The more tape and stickers you apply on those cracks, the more punk it is. Keep a nice bass for non-throwing-stuff-around-type gigs.

Dont feel bad for playing bad music.

A friend of mine did the same thing with a Warwick. His move was really cool too... kind of like a yoyo thing. He'd scare chicks with it. Just one day it didnt come back.

I am too busy playing to toss around my Cirrus.

The resonance aren't gonna get FUBARED just because of that, and besides, it's a beater, fill the cracks with superglue and tape them over after the gule has settled. Then apply sticker saying "**** YOU" and you're cooler than ever before! :D

magnusdeus123
11-26-2007, 11:55 PM
Well , thats cool and all.....except the fact that right now it's my ONLY bass .

Yeah , but it's sounding ok . The sounds coming a bit crackly , but thats probably more of a battery issue rather than the bass issue .

Oh, an Ibanez... a friend's dad has an Ibanez precision from the 80s (lovely bass! Got it refinished in neon yellow, hahaha), and he's been throwing it around since he got it in the 80s!

Who cares, a guitar can take a BEATING and still work! :)

Eh, not a big deal. I've got a huge crack in almost the same place on my (even cheaper) bass because I was too broke/stupid to get straplocks.

I think your real problem, though, lies here:

Fallout Boy , and the newer Punk bands

:rollno:

Why, pick up some Anthrax and Megadeth albums, of course :p

The reason you just gave to not listening to Anthrax is pretty bad, your juts limiting yourself and missing out.

Meant no offence in that regard .

I meet a lot of people who 'think' they love the bands you mention and are total fans . You've probably met those types too , the ones who talk about that 'one' song which has that 'awesome' guitar solo.....yeah I'm talking about them .

Well here those types are either Metallica fans or Megadeth fans . Call me judgemental if you want , but it kinda gets tiring if everyone you meet knows the bands.....but really cant hold a candle to when you really want to talk about the band.....talk about the diversity in the bands music , how it changed in songs and over time and such , really talk about the band . How can they when they only know that one song with the guitar solo.....Get what I'm saying now ??

P.S. : I'll probably check out megadeth , but I have Iron Maiden on my rooster first after I get fed up of Sabbath . So it'll have to wait . This is the problem with being a guy who enters the foray too late .

+1, and of course Sabbath (any era, as long as it is Geezer), and Ozzy with Rudy Sarzo. You can safely skip Judas Priest and the Scorpions for bass, but they both have some cool riffs that are worth learning.

nuh uh try early Scorpions stuff ( they had songs before No One Like You and Rock You Like A Hurricane yah know) the band goes way back (1965) and they're early stuff is amazing. Check out the "Lonesome Crow" & "Fly To The Rainbow" albums, songs like "I'm Going Mad" "Action" & "Fly To The Rainbow" have great bass lines.

I stand corrected, my high school gf was a huge Scorps fan and made me listen to Lonsesome Crow a few times. It was definitely quality stuff, if a bit too "dreamlike" for my tastes. But you're right - I was referring to the 80's more commercial version of the band - some great riffs ("Can't Live Without You" and "the Zoo") and power ballads, fun songs, but not much for shining moments in the history of bass guitar. I'm not down on them, don't get me wrong. :)

Eh, if you're looking for jazz elements in metal, I'd skip Mudvayne (to be honest, I'd skip Mudvayne in any context, I saw them at Ozzfest 05 and was incredibly bored) and go for Atheist. But I do echo the sentiment, genre boundaries are good for classifications, but the music should determine the genre, not the other way around.

Son,,,i say stop this bass abuse right now. What next the headstock cracked off? Yea so you seen a few of the Idie boy bands throwing basses and guitars around but guess what...if they break one they get new ones handed to them...you have none till you can buy another. Live and learn..oh by the way get some black tape for Christ's sake.

I just traded in two basses last month at a local shop and got top trade dollar on both why? I whipe them down after every gig and alot of practices use straplocks and inspect my connections. The owner said these basses look new...i said funny i gigged 3 years with both...he said nice you take good care of you gear..cant say that for most guys who come in here then they wine when i wont give them much in trade.
Take care of your gear and it will take care of you!

1 You dad is mistaken - you'll have nothing to worry about in terms of "resonances being off"

2. if it still plays - then all is ok - play on - but check your neck to make sure that wasn't damaged in some way too.

3. You don't feel emo, you feel emotional. Next think you know we'll all be speaking doublespeak and 1337 and then I'll have to shoot myself. little battles little battles.

4. You should never swing your bass around your neck or body because you want to emulate Fallout Boy or anyone else.
Careful - don't make yourself into the next Kip Winger.

5. You've got quite the hairy arm there, I imagine you are rather hirsute - all the more reason keep playing like a beast that has just attacked your bass. You'll get lots of cred - and looks from the ladies.

6. Black Gaffer's tape (or even better use a rivet gun to hold it in place) and a 3" deep Eye Bolts. That's metal and you'll never drop your bass again. Problem solved.

magnusdeus123
12-05-2007, 09:22 PM
1 - Hey , thanks , wanted to confirm that , although it's been playing fine since then .

2 - Same as 1

3 - ......uhhh......sorry I guess.....

4 - Who the hell is Kip Wanger

5 - ......Beast on the bass !??.....jeez . Well if it gets glances from the opposite sex I dont mind . Probably most who are too airheaded to know what a 'bass' is......{--"}

6 - I'm checking this out . I dont mind the Yellow tape though , it kinda looks nice in a bizarre sort of way . I'm checking out the bolts to see if it'd be good....although , not sure about making more holes in my bass .

maybe a silly question, but what kind of strap locks do you have on there? cuz... Schaller's use a screw that's much smaller in diameter than the standard strap button screw. that's why it comes out easier. i hate schallers for this reason. dunlops use the same size screw as the standard strap button screw.

During a gig we once did a planned simultaneous guitar/bass throw mid-tune. Things went fine for me, but not so much for my guitarist. His guitar did a face-plant headstock first to the stage, and a tuning peg snapped off. He couldn't stay in tune the rest of the show.

Same show, next band. Guitarist does a throw and same thing happens. Guitar hits stage headstock first, and the headstock snaps right off. It was a 1 or 2 week old Ibanez S-series: nice gitter. Headstock snapped below the nut, taking the locking mechanism with it. /guitar

Not a good night for guitarists :p

In the case of my guitarist, the problem was not the fault of the straplocks: the strap came undone where the fabric loops back over itself and is sown together. Cheap strap (nylon?): unfortunately, that type is good for throughs due to little friction. So, be mindful of that as well.

FWIW, I've used Hipshots and never had an issue.

speaking of Headstock face-plants...i played a show this past june in a coffeeshop parking lot, dropped my bass bout 4 times on the concrete...no problem, bass stayed in tune and everything. Later after the show, walkin to my car i dropped the bass on the grass and the headstock crackin in half right in a nice neat line between the E and A tuners...so, i just removed the G string and moved the E, A and D string down and now have a nice 3 string Squier P haha :bassist:

the times droppin it on the concrete were the times it fell over or i just didnt care after a set, and just unbuckled the seatbelt strap and let it fall lol i never really cared much about that bass then...i realize now how much i love it...

it's the backup bass that takes a beatin :bassist:, but i enjoy playin it all the same...my favorite comment is "Dat boy's goood...he aint got but three strangs but dat boy's good!" :hyper:
