I have a mid-nineties L-2000. It's my favorite bass, and I'm going to have a matching L-2500 built. My problem is G&L only lists swamp ash on the body wood of my bass (it's a natural finish), and it seems really heavy for swamp ash. Does anyone knew if they ever put ash bodies on L-2000's with premier finishes. Thanks.

Do you mean L2500's with premium finishes? My '95 L2000 is a Honeyburst with ash body.It weighs in at just under 10 lb. They used to make heavy L2500's with ash bodies but now I think they use basswood with an ash laminate.

Swamp ash can vary quite a bit in density or weight. On average I would say it is heavier than alder. If you have a transparent finish that shows wood grain, you probably have a swamp ash bass. Post a pic.
My 98 "Swamp Ash" L2000 is by far the heaviest bass I own. I'm thinking more heavyass "Northern Ash" myself. :D

This is the only picture I have on my laptop. I'll try to take another one tomorrow.

Anyone have any idea? My tech says he thinks it's ash.

P.S If you like that blackburst finish you may want to swing by BABP (http://badassbassplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=7098) since we are looking to do an LE rendition L-2500. Won't have an ebony neck though. :(
And there is no Wanda option available. ;)
