ok well hows this,...

just played my first gig at a very small pub with a "come and try" sort og organisation,... heres the thing
joined a "jamming group" cant really call them a band cos havent been together heaps long? they needed a bass player so I said id do it...

found out two days ago, theyre having a gig tonight at a come and try open mic thing at a small pub... starts off the singer is 17 so cant get into pubs, so we snuck her in anyways, then all of a sudden it starts getting packed, I have my massive hardcase and keep trying to not get in the way of people... my mum n dad and sister and bro in law came along to watch so I ended up getting my sis to get me quite a few beers,... was about the 3rd band on so played greenday 'basket case', elevator love (a song by that australian idol winner guy, sebastian whats his name) didnt like it and didnt know it too much after 2 days so just came in on the chorus :D and then played living end 'whos gonna save us' and beatles 'I wanna hold your hand'... wasnt too bad, apparently I didnt look at the crowd but was rocking on and moshing all through out or getting into it :D

got a free beer for playing so im now pretty much on the way to being happy tipsy, all good :D pretty impressed with the night... the singer is going back to japan to stay and the guitarist (who invited me originally) is going back to japan but coming back next year,... wasnt heaps good friends with the drummer but who knows, have to see what goes next year! but all in all im pretty happy with my first gig :D

just have to keep practising and playing more now!!!!

oh and if anyone is shy about their first gig, bah just rock on and do it :D

At an earlier age, I lived to gig. I much rather would gig than have sex (prefferebly both in the time frame).

Best of Luck,
Wesley R.

PS- Thirty something years ago, I found it best for me not too drink a bunch at or before a gig. Of course the genre, venue and level of what is required can be determining factors.

First gig--always memorable. My first gig stunk so bad it was painful. After that, it got better.

I'm sure yours will, too.

Also, sounds like you don't have to wait until the guitar and singer get back--I'm sure other bands would be glad to have you.

thanks guys :)

yeah I was pretty scared of doing it considering how little time I had / practice on the songs, but turned out pretty good!

oh and with the beers comment yeah im planning on slowing it down next time, had 3 beers on an emtpy stomach plus the free one after the show, was more of a happy excited stage than drunk though cos yeah I dont think would have been very good showmanship to join these guys and get wasted and stuff up their gig!

still on a high from it all tho!
