Ok, I tried deleting the old thread, but it didn't work so I'll let that one die (sorry for the waste of bandwidth....)

Anyways, I worked on the bass today and was able to snap some decent pics of the bass and of the wonderful shop I get to work in (the shop is never this dirty, but due to my neighbor's injury, it's hard to get things the way he wants them, but it'll be lookin neat and clean after this project).

Updates:

New neck is glued, squared, measured, and ready to be routed and cut (will be tomorrow).

We're going with a nice piece of gaboon ebony for the fingerboard now. It's going to have curly maple lines and binding, so it'll look real nice when we're done with it.

New plan for heel, I want to do something similar to what some luthiers on here do, so I'll have a layer of curly maple, purpleheart or ebony, and then curly maple again for that strong accent.

We now have curly maple and ebony rails for the body wings, which will look real nice when this all comes together.

yup, I'm keeping in check with the plan. We're making sure everything is right before we make a cut, and we usually do a test to make sure what we're doing will work out how we want it, so it's going slow, but no mistakes yet!

I don't have to worry about a scarf joint this time since the neck blank was thick enough for a angled headstock with my new headstock shape (comments on that btw?)

my plan is to have a plan, and to always double check myself. It works so far.

oh, btw, Rick is such an awesome guy for letting me use his shop. As you can see, he has everything that I need plus some extra. His sprindle sander is in a closet outside of the shop, and he has 2 types of router tables. Real cool thing is that he teaches me how to do everything on my own along the way so when I'm doing this by myself I'm as comfortable as can be.

i want to see this finished! bubinga is my favorite tonewood in terms of sound and it doesn't look too bad either.

Love the body and the headstock shape. The different lams on the body give it a good subtle contrast.

Tomorrow the plan is....

-route for truss rods
-cut taper in neck
-cut thickness of neck (thanks to wils)
-make transition block cut the angle for the headstock (I have enough for this without the scarf joint, which solves some heart issues...)
whatever else we can manage, and if I only get one of things done, then so be it.
